Picked up a a leaflet in Currys today for Mega Offers and they have the Advent 4211 for £249.99 until Wednesday. Looking online it is still £279.99.

I believe this is nationwide.

Quidco 3.5% reserve and collect

The Advent netbook 4211 is the perfect companion for people on the move. It allows you to stay online, browse files and stay in touch with family and friends. Intel Atom Processor N270
Genuine Windows(R) XP Home
80 GB Hard Drive & 1GB Memory
Built In Webcam & Bluetooth connectivity
1.12 KG Weight

Looks just like the MSI Wind.

I was looking for a fast booting portable netbook. This boots in 1 min, where as the Asus 901 boots in half this time with XP. Battery life for the Asus is also twice as long so I may try and get the asus but thought this was a really good price.

Really good price for what is the MSI Wind but different branding. Plus its not that hard to install OS X on it as well...
#2
I have the Advent and it boots to desktop including entering password at login screen in 40 seconds under XP... (my definition of finishing booting to desktop being that I must manually start and have Internet Explorer up and running)
Optionally also factor in around another £80 afterwards to upgrade the ram and harddrive to 2GB and 320GB for a beast :) And even then still cheaper than the MSI probably.
#3
Really good deal, Not as good looking colour wise as the Wind colour options
#4
The main issue for me with the Asus is the small keyboard. Havign tried the Acer One (very similar keyboard to the MSI) and the Asus, the Acer was much easier to type with.
#5
Good price voted hot, however it does look cheap compared side by side to the Acer.

Yes good deal

Hot... get PC World to price match this then you will get another £3 off! :-)

Very confused - that's an offer for the Acer Aspire One, not for the Advent 4211!

Look to the right of the acer and there is a small box with the Advent in. They are obviously pushing the Acer more.
#18
Can this only be used for surfing the net? Will it run MS Office etc?

Should be able to run office. You just need an external usb Cd/dvd rom to load up.

thanks, OP gr8 deal
Does anyone know if a Linux OS can be easily installed on this, say, Ubuntu?

Yes it must be true, if you look carefully on the scan you can see that although it says upgrade it also shows Advent
It's confusing advertising though, as upgrade should mean upgrading specs on same brand.
I guess they mean upgrade by choosing a higher spec (different company) brand:w00t:

£218.55 inc. VAT not including delivery which is good dont know how i didnt think of this doh!! £11.99 for an extra stick of ram.
#27
Not available in Nottingham. No mention of the upgrade offer on the instore leaflet. Sad - good deal!

Went to my local Currys at lunchtime and I am now the very happy owner of a £249.99 Advent 4211.

Mind you, the Manager said that it was a misprint, and he removed the remainder of the flyers while I was in the shop, so if you want one I'd get it sooner rather than later!

Heat and rep to Web Hunter for spotting this.

Yeah, bear in mind that this machine has a fairly long bootup and short battery life (2 1/4 hours at 50% brightness and the CPU running at it's slowest setting), as well as a only a single year's warranty.

...right, that's it...don't really need it...but I think at £249.99 its got to be worth it (but its funny how I didn't fancy paying the £279.99 - which is only £30 more...strange what HotUkDeals does to my logic!!!)!!! Off right now to hunt one of these down!

Thanks to the OP...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It boots up quickly enough and is no worse than most notebooks for battery life. Turning off wireless would probably make it last, but that defeats the object. A better battery would have been nicer.

Linux can be installed, but it wouldn't be worth doing. Why pay for an XP licence and install linux?

I've got Visual Studio 2008 running on mine, so I reckon it'll handle Office.

It's a nice little machine. Much better (LCD is lovely) than the ASUS 700 I had that was nicked. The only downside is the creaking hinges on the LCD. They don't fold flat like the ASUS.
#33
It should run Office Xp just fine - I have Vista Ultimate (with Aero) and OpenOffice on mine, and it all runs perfectly.

This is such a flexible little machine, and with it being so easy to upgrade the internal parts, and change the OS (Linux, MS, and even OSX!), if you can afford it, you should get one. Yes, the battery sucks big ones, and will be unuseable if you do not have access to plugs (ie long travellers), but for most of us, the keyboard size, screen size, and power is excellent. Can't fault mine at all.

If you are still in doubt, check out http://forums.msiwind.net for a supportive source of information.

PS - I love the way the leaflet says the Advent is an upgrade to the Acer!
#34
so is this instore only? And is it a limited deal/misprint?

Yes - instore only. Web site still charges £279.99.

Yes - looks like it's a misprint (but even if it isn't, the deal finishes next Wednesday).

I visited the store on old kent road and was told that the offer is only if you have the leaflet.
Looks like they've cleared all leaftets.
But since its till wednesday, could someone comfirm if this is still available in any store ?

...I can concur...

...went down to my local one...and there were none of the scanned leaflets to be found anywhere...so I asked...and they say £279.99 please...and I say isn't it £249.99...and they then say ONLY if I can prove it (ie produce the actual leaflet...)!!!

...oh well...lets hope DSG does another misprint sometime for this machine (as otherwise can't see them moving on it - as they are exclusively selling this model)...:x

Anyone know where there might be any leaflets (hahaha...)...I'll be down in London this wkend...so if anyone knows, please share (...please)!!!

Maybe this is true ... they realised and arent letting customers take advantage of the offer.
Might be a good idea to try to checkout the item and see the price after discount (if any).

Price at DSGi is £279.99, down to misrprint.

Quick look on COMET shows the 120GB Acer Aspire one for only £200 - that's a steal.

do you think they have messed up the specs?

seems awfully cheap for the spec
