This better surface under another brand - I won't even consider buying this branded as Advent since PC World customer support is awful.

Any plans for a SSD version of this? Standard HDD in a netbook is a bit pointless IMO

I can get this down to about £262 incl. delivery... question is... is it really the Wind.
#8
Glad i didnt get a eeepc now!
#9
I knew that I was missing something...the scrren is tiny, meaning the laptop will also be tiny! So it's portable at 1.12KG, how smart am I?!?!?!
#10
advent pc's are great i`ve had 2 desktops and 1 is still going strong after 8 years and i just upgraded to a new one and its very good
#11
Is it better than an EEE ?

Wider screen, 1024x600 but bigger and a standard laptop HDD instead of SSD.

The atom won't be any quicker than the EEE's celeron though.

This might be of interest to you...

I suspect it's reasonable to take it with a touch of salt for now since no other sites have done their own independent testing along the same lines to confirm it one way or another. However, as it stands, it does make for some interesting reading

At least there's a chance that you could replace the drive in the future.... not sure why you'd bother though.

Still not sure why this has popped out of nowhere cheaper than the EEE or MSI Wind pre-orders.
#14
I've ordered.

Heat and rep added.

Was waiting for the 901 but this looks more usable, keyboard wise.

(Also cheaper)

The Eee 901, 1000 and MSI wind are all officially out tomorrow, theres a medion ayoka mini out as well (re badged wind) http://netbookmag.com/
I dunno which one to get lol.
Any ideas about when the thing will be recieved as it says delayed delivery when ordering?

The Atom IS faster. It's only better than the EEE if it fulfills your needs.
#17
I am soo tempted, do I really need it though?
#18
901 and acer delayed until end July/August according to some of the shop keepers in TCR London today.

Not sure if i entirely agree with you about service ..remember that UMPC fever last year centred around the ADVENT U1A. LAPTOP..well managed to get hold of one at the time. used heavily anyway ..recently started playing up , the machine was picked up after one phone call to the techguys. I was kept informed of progress via regular SMS everystep of the way. The unit was returned just this weekend gone & would you know it, ''brand new touch screen , brand new hard drive.... and to think the original problem was my recovery partition!!
#20

I hadn't factored in delivery when I posted earlier unfortunately; the discount code for the EEE seems to work with this, but I don't think it'll last long....

You can buy it from Dixons instead, linky and use the same discounts as with an EEE but you're only saving a few pounds compared with PC World. Really only works to your advantage if you have an Egg Card. (2.5% instant cashback, 3% Quidco)

Very tempted, although I think I might wait for 1280*768 resolution models. The HP mini-note manages that, but the battery life is terrible.
#28
Anyone having trouble getting on this site?

Yes, can't access it either.
#32
Me too

I really wanna look at this as i work for currys so get 10% off pc world and i've been looking at the msi wind for aaaages
#33
Thing is, are there the same components? same built quality? :S
#34
Probably taken off to adjust release date.

Think Apple.com when they are refreshing their stock.

You can see it now. Head of DSG says "take all the sites down and correct the arrival dat. That's right, August 2008!"

:whistling:

Guess I'll check their site tomorrow to see if instock. When I rang PCWORLD earlier, they couldn't get through to my local store. He said it should be onsale on-line and instore from tomorrow.

Time will tell.
#35
I doubt thats it,

Currys and Dixons websites dont work either..
#36
Do you think this will have an crippled advent bios?
#37
u wanna save ur money n buy urself a nicer car timbo, lol
#38
Seems like the entire DSG network is down, pcworld.co.uk, currys.co.uk and dixons.co.uk. Weird.

Now why would i wanna do a think like that? Mk2 GTi Golf. Still out-performs the more modern versions (Take Jeremy Clarkson's word, not mine!)

I thought the Atom used in the eee 901 and the Wind was supposed to be about the same speed as the celeron used in the other eees but having significantly less power consumption?
