May I ask why this is a deal? It has been this price for months and is the same price elsewhere, have not voted cold yet but just wondered if I am missing something.

I just noticed it at that price in Currys and couldn't find it posted.
NetBooks with similar spec are going for around £279.
£230 for a netbook with 1GB ram,120GB HD and XP is a good deal IMO.

how about the battery?

The spec doesn't state the type of battery but most likely will be a 3 cell. Should give 2.5 hours of play time at best.

The missus has one of these and gets jsut over 2 hours with the wifi on.. pretty good, i think.

If you only want 8.9" screen then you are better off getting the Acer from Asda for £150.

Oh I have just noticed that this one includes XP so not such a bad deal, but I would prefer 10" screen (I actually have the Advent 4211)

Not in this case. Definitely not from MSI. Probably from ECS. However, it is better looking than the 4213, I suppose.

If from ECS, the good look can be the only virtue :)

Advent 4490 = ECS J10IL3 (look at your base) gtr8 little net book, I bought mine with a dodgy hard drive + a very old sony vaio for a £10, spent £32.97 on a brand new samsung 320gb hd, (not re-manufactured drive) loaded Windows7 and its runs it just as well as XP!, I have it plugged into the bedroom tv and use it with a wireless keyboard as a much more functional S.M.A.R.T. Tv. Next I am gonna try upgrading the ram to 2gb as it struggles a bit with some full hd videos, though this may not make a difference and I am unsure as websites have conflicting information as to the maximum ram that can be installed (Advent versions are quoted as 2gb,ECS versions are quoted as 1gb)
