it is actually £389 I think... http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/2200090/art/advent/6441.html?srcid=867 plus postage and packaging.

Fair enough but I would rather buy from dixons than piximania probably just me. :-D

No, the processor is an old dual core and you really should be looking at core 2 duo now as for the graphics card well i do not see one listed but i guess it will be the intel 4500hd which is weak will cope with hd videos but you will not be doing much gaming on this machines.

For some very strange reason they have not put a HDMI port on this machines which means that you are stuck with watching your blu-ray videos on a 17" screen which sucks, plus if you want to actaully watch your blu-ray videos on this you need to do a bios update after you buy it. http://support.thetechguys.com/Layout.aspx?ID={25422a50-f305-41fa-813b-9696ec5b9086}&CatID={9db140b2-1cb0-49c2-bec0-74ffc6cb5eb0}

If you want a machine that has blu-ray than this is probably going to be the cheapest one out there but you really should cosider paying a bit more and getting one of the entry level hp blu-ray machines, it will have a better processor and will last longer than an advent.

if you are talking about this hp http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/306927/hp-6735s-laptop-389-98-ebuyer-amd-t than this advent is a lot worse. The hp has a better processor, bigger hard drive, same amount of ram but the HP's RAM is faster and the mobo can take 8gb, better integrated grahics. The only thing that this advent has over the hp is that it has blu-ray but i do not see the point of blu-ray when you dont have a output to connect it to a big screen tv.

Also the hp is a hp, fantastic build quality and they are made to last, the advent is a cr*ppy dsg own brand very unrealiable in cpmparison and you have to get your support through DSG (techguys) with hp you can get very cheap extended warrienties (£23 for 2 year) and more favourable terms, ie a term in the dsg extended warranty states they can take upto 6 weeks to repair the machine and i know most people can not do without their machines for 6 weeks

I think for electrical items like this it's the same company? My Mum bought a freezer from them recently and it came from DSG, also Advent is a DSG only brand as far as I'm aware.

I would also caution against Advent, while some of their machines are actually a reasonable build the main problem is you really don't know what you're getting - they're all rebranded laptops of some form or another and finding support or parts can be tricky further down the line.

if you want an entry level blu-ray machine than look at something like this http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1324374696.1231188084@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccecadegeefhhelcflgceggdhhmdfoj.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=908015&category_oid=-34420 and if you use code SALE25 it is £457 and the extra £60 is well worth it as you are getting a brand which is the biggest in the world for home computers, you are getting a dedicated graphic card and it has a HDMI port so you can actually hook up to proper HD tv and get the full experience of it.

I just bought this computer and I really can't complain
its fast and the screen is very clear, though its taking a little while to get used the keyboard
so far i think my vaio was better but i have only had this one for about 2 hours so we'll see
I do think its worth the money for the 4gb memory and 17" screen, but thats just me and i don't really want a gaming computer, most i come to gaming is the sims and the pets games!
If your thinking about it and just want a laptop for day to day, I'd say this is good!

T3200 is clocked 2Ghz and is not slower than most T5XXX or T7XXX with similar clock and certainly not than AMD Turion X2 Dual Core RM-72 2.1Ghz :) .The HP from ebuyer hasn't got blue-ray.

Although I haven't got rather good experience with Advents, it's risky to describe definitvely the quality of them without checking the specific model, as they have not been made by only one manufacturer and may come from the same factory as the HP :)

I am really not sure where you are getting your information from, the T3200 is an old processor now and it slower than the whole T5xxx range although not massivly as some of them are also quite old processors now, it is also slower than the AMD processor that you mentioned according to the bench mark tests and it the T7 Range is far superior

I got one of these today for a relative. Quickest laptop I've ever used. Very nice bit of kit. It does have a TV out ie DVI and the software to permit easy chaning to another TFT or TV etc. Set everything up and he's very happy with it. It also has an e-SATA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esata#External_SATA) connection which is nice. Only negative was it seemed to have only 2 USB and both are bunch together (don't like that) on the right hand side. I'll have a closer look tomorrow.

Blu Ray playback is great from what I tested. Installed loads of heavy going apps and it multi-tasks very well.

A little look at the Belarc http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/9003/adventbelarche7.jpg

http://www.belarc.com

Confirmed 2 USB. Not good as there's enough space on the machine for 20.
