Great Price...
#2
Seems a good price? Any thoughts?
#3
Decent!
The only thing is the poor hard drive, but that is easily upraded with an external 1TB for £80 =]
#4
Did anybody see that Alan Sugar show the other day, documenting his rise and fall in the PC world.

They had a bunch of the first PC's for up to £3,000, shown through old commercials etc, just makes you think how far we have come when get this for sub £400.
#5
'TV out No'

No HDMI out then?
#6
Its good, but the awful processor lets it down ;-)
And an external HDD would probably be necessary for most people.
#7
Is the full spec missing the crucial graphics capabilities, i would be surprised if there is dedicated graphics for this price. Any experts on this model to comment.

CHEEPSTUFFRULES!
'TV out No'

Precisely what I looked for first. Without this, it's very limiting really. Who wants to watch Blu Ray on a laptop that might not be full HD resolution? Good deal otherwise, but not being able to plug into an HDTV is a huge letdown.
#9
COLD - yes it's cheap, but no TV OUT seems to make it a pointless purchase for most.
#10
This is a fantastic laptop. I'm using it right now.

The description is quite inaccurate. It says there are 3 USB connections but there are infact only 2. It also has DVI out on the back.

I have been able to convert video, use photoshop, use itunes and have firefox open at the same time with no slow down, so the speed of the processor really isn't a problem.
#11
If this is a standard spec 6441, then the screen will be 1440x900, and it will have a DVI out.
It will have integrated IntelGL40 Express graphics
(so no sound over HDMI, even if you buy a DVI to HDMI adapter).
#13
I'm sure I read somewhere that you need a minimum recommended 1.8 Ghz Core 2 Duo for Blu ray.
#14
A very badly balanced spec...and on top of that, it's an Advent
#15

Nope, not a dupe.

Different Store.
#16
Can't believe that Advent wastes their blu-ray drivers on T3200 processors!!!
#17
I have a advent thats just died after 2 and a half years. In that time it had a windows error, so had to reinstall that, and the battery life went from one hour, to about 2 minutes :w00t:
I'd buy one with a nice name on it, not Advent. They have no website either since it's a currys/comet brand name so no support. And you might wanna get two/three year warranty on it as well as it will die on you. Not that i'm upset my laptop has broke :whistling:

Why would 160gb not be enough for most people :S Thats alot of space for general useage.

Polly_P you should phone the head office of Advent and say:

under the sales of goods act 2002, products have to last up to 6 years without any faults. Since your product died 2 years after purchase, they should offer to fix it(free!)/offer a partial or full refund! If they dont then say you will take further action in a small claims court! read this article for further info: http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2006/mar/25/consumernews.howtocomplain

Have I read this thread correctly......

A blu-ray drive but not able to output to a tv (with sound) in order to benefit from having it???

If so that seems totally pointless to me as I cant imagine it have the greatest laptop screen fitted, now if it had an HDMI out this would be a hot deal.

Not a hot deal IMO , think much bettter balanced pc's are available for similar money.

Why? The sale of goods act applies (or applied - it may have been encompassed by a consumer act) to the seller (e.g. PC world). Also the small claims court is also a myth - it is a common term, but really means the small claims track of the county court (which is not a decision the claimant makes).

Still generally good advice. ;-)

I would suggest asking for details of their ADR (alternate dispute resolution scheme) if they have one (if they don't roll over & repair/replace/partially refund). Otherwise, the judge could award you £200 but make you pay costs (if he/she doesn't think you made best efforts to avoid court).

Keyword being MAY - "retailers may be liable for up to six years"

If anyone tries that with me, and they do; "my solicitor will be writing", "trading standards said...." you will just get no good will from the person TRYING to sort out your problem. Instead expect something like well you can write to the legal team at XYZ and wait for a response - TaRa. Followed by a silence and customer feeling like a prat. Now got themselves in a dead end.

TBH on the whole advent laptops are of poor build quality. Value for money yes but I personally wouldn't buy most models. Certain other big brand manufacturers have a worse return rate.
#28
can anyone please confirm whether the processor is really a T3200 (2.00 ghz)
or a T2370 (1.73ghz)

No BR drive

So your missing a Blue ray drive to watch on a shoddy little screen! Wow, the computer from ebuyer is better for the money I meant, If you want a blue ray buy a laptop that supports connecting it to your tv~!!!
#30
The small claims court is a really easy route to take you can do it all on line you pay a small percentage of the amount you are claiming up front ie £100 the cost of the item £10 fee. its paid upfront and if you win you win the cost back. The retailer has to have a really good reason not to give you the money back, the customer generally wins in the small claims court, You can only use small claims up to £5000 i believe. I took aldis to the small claims over a camea and got all my money back plus the fee i paid up front.
#31
i don't see how anything that that isn't c2d, c2q or high up amd can run blu-ray :S with this processor and at that speed you will strugle to watch it without judder! neither hot nor cold from me
#32
The hotter HP is a better deal

This thing is unbalanced
even though it might have DVI for out
