This is a great laptop for the price and has changed my mind about Vista.

Good Points:
Very quick (except boot up time)
Runs vista very smoothly
Built In SD card reader
Very clear screen

Bad Points:
Appalling packaging & no accessories. The laptop comes in brown box with 1 sheet basic instructions, the battery and the charger(absolutely nothing else).
Dreadful Battery 1.5 hours maximum, Less if using Wi-Fi.

does anyone know how realiable these are? What is their customer service like?

That’s something to look out for when buying inexpensive laptops and thanks for sharing the bad news.

thank you have edited post to reflect this.

I'm not 4 dell but the other one posted for an extra £70 seems a better deal.

Brilliant deal. If it works and is reliable when received.

T2330 is probabably a Core 2 Duo with less cache.
Cache is needed for games so there will be very little effect here at all.

review here of someone who paid the normal £330

http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/laptops/0,39030092,49296000,00.htm

Strangely another review at PCPro says its very light at 2.6KG.
Down to a lousy battery mainly.
Graphics are slow SIS but it benchmarks really well with non games.

I hate initiating troll wars but...

It's an advent for the love of god don't do it.

Yes the components are good, no the build is worst in the UK.

Spend the extra few quid on a good quality build brand.

Advent in the "it" world is like a swear word - SAVE a few more ££s and go for something else.

If I recall a member posted an item on here (who worked for PC world) who listed the returns/faults - i think Advent were the worst performing lap top...

be warned..

I guess I could be the exception that proves the rule, but my first laptop was an Advent. I bought it in 2000 from PC World (I know), and it had heavy use for about 3 years and travelled the world. It then got passed on to my parents and is still going strong today.

It wasn't a refurb though.

Very inviting price for those looking for the cheapest possible laptop.

Thanks OP, u cannot beat this price for this spec IMO. Advent may be a lower quality brand but when you look at the price of other brands this is an ideal cheap laptop.

Not everybody can afford to save a few more pounds.

With a 12 month warranty, IF it goes wrong send it back.

I've had Avent's before and had no issues.

This post so nearly got all the predictable responses in record time:

The usual I'd rather have a Dell = ticked
It's got a lousy battery = ticked
I'd never buy one of these (insert company) again = ticked
It's got Vista, I'd rather have XP = ticked

It's only missing the 'but postage is an extra £xx to Northern Ireland". Can only assume postage to NI is same as mainland!!

Looks like a good price to me if you take it for what it is rather than pointing out what it isn't.
#14
Yes be careful, I had an Advent laptop a few years back and then the CD drive just stopped working. It wouldn't read any discs.
#15
happened to my HP/Compaq laptop too.

Tuned out it happened to thousands of HP/Compaqs.
When my motherboard went it also turned out that this happened to a large percentage of this model.

I really want to get a laptop but the way some people talk is as if they have had lots in the last few years my HP desktop that I am using now I have had for well over 5 years and apart from me clogging it up with download ***** it has never gone wrong (as he touches wood) so now wondering wether to bother going exspensive or just have a cheap one that I can justify having to get another in a couple of years.

But as they are now out of stock wont think about this one.
#19
from other comments it is a rebadged ECS laptop.(Uniwill)
ECS U50 SI1 (Gericom Phantom A4 Superlight).

Being ECS it could well be identical to the Fujitsu advertised here at £320. (identical spec,Bios, graphics CPU etc but certainly different screen.
The manual seems to state that the T2330 is the top CPU that can be used with this model. Although pics of the Bios show a faster Core 2 Duo!!
Dixons declare a weight of 300g more. This is maybe the power supply, an error or its a larger 6 cell battery pack.

ECS also make latops for Acer.

Just bought one, Quidco tracked £6 as well. Is this the bestest ever laptop in the world? No. At this price, is it a bargain? Absolutely. Hot.
#22
mine arrived today.

Initial impression is all good. Whist it looks 'opened' it is also 'brand new' with zero markings anywhere.

I would be greedy if I was disappointed in the very light battery. (31.68 watt hours only)

Amazing spec for less that £200. And it seems I have 1 RAM slot free. Expected 2 X 1GB
