Nope, and considered the same processor popped up recently at around £170, throw in a cheap motherboard (like this one) and two sticks of value ram (also, like this one) you could probably have it built for £500.

+ a 19 inch [email protected] pounds = 600 so really you are paying 39 quid to have it built and warrantied not bad at all.

yes but why put a **** graphics card with a latest quad core setup?
will be worse than swimming in mud.

Is it just not a stunning graphics card, but better than the likes of the Radeon X1300 you tend to find on Dell setups? Or actually no improvement over the onboard graphics?

At that price it looks a really decent deal, and presumably if you really wanted, you could upgrade to a better graphics card at a later date and remove the 8300 GS?

I had a look at it in PC World today, looks similar to the Advent PC i'm currently using so presumably has at least 1 Firewire port on the rear (although I didn't think to check instore until i'd left!).

Instore, the base unit alone is £680, with the standard monitor £699, and with a glass fronted monitor at £739.

Tempted to get this at £639... and i've had no problems with this P4 1gb Advent in the 3 years i've had it from PC World... are these Quad Cores still an unknown quantity - no point getting something that nothing I have will work with! :)

This really isn't that special...

Besides the fact Advent aren't particularly known for their quality and you have to deal with PC World, as others have mentioned the graphics card is nothing special, the CPU can be had for very little after the Intel price cuts, I doubt the monitor will be anything special etc.

The 8300GS is the slowest DX10 graphics card that Nvidia do.

The model up, the 8400GS can be brought from eBuyer for justr £29.99 http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/129802 You would need to buy a new graphics card to get the best out of the quad core.

Hi there,

I went there last week and bought one - the base unit alone is actually £600.

A really good deal.
Once i changed the video card Vista premium rates the machine as 5.5 overall (the only 5.5 is for memory all the others are 5.9 - very very high rating). (not out of 10 - look it up if you are not sure how the vista rating works). It rates this 2 gigs of ram higher than the packard bell ipower ram that i used to have.

I have taken out the poor video card and put in a 8800GTS (384mb ish) for £220 (also from PC World)...
Fantastic kick ass system that can currently play all the latest games at the highest settings.:w00t:

I really like this machine -

It does vary depending on cpu load / graphics load.. (and which graphics card you have in it if you dont keep standard).

It is not as quiet as an packard bell ipower 8650 but IS quieter than a PB 7650,,don't know if that helps .. I think the noise level is quite low but not silent.

Re: Recommend graphics card - please see my post above (dabs gives you a discount here too doesn't it?)

cheers for that, i guess i got to be fair the chip inside the dell was a e4300 and on board graphics, this is a different beast altogether. i prob keep to stock graphics for the time being. charlie

i am sure they will take it back under DSR. i think you can just pop it back into a store if i am not mistaken and get a refund. you know what I nearly bought it yesterday but as the £60 voucher expired i left it and decided to wait for dells offers thur am. its strange but nearly all dells mid range machines and above and pushing the quad 6600 chip, i guess its quad cores for all :) charlie
