Very tempted by this. Good spot OP
#3
good find, bargain pc - well specced to browse, office task and light gaming - ideal family machine and the advent stuff i've had has been pretty solidly built.
#4
pretty decent spec for the price
#5
If I hadn't decided to build my own I'd have been very tempted by this.
#6
Brilliant spec but how would it be for gaming?

Description states it comes with an AMD HD6670 GPU, possibly a 300w power supply, if I changed the two to AMD HD6850 and a 500-550w power supply, would this be a good buy?

Good price, but Advent. They're the old Skoda of the computing world.
#8
Really good find!
#9
Is this powerful enough to render video?
#10
more than capable of full hd video
#11
Anyone care to hazard a guess as to whether this is as good or better than the Dell XPS 8300's similar spec ones please?

Using it mainly for photoshop/digital work.

Ta.

Ooh, and hot from me too!

decent spec but worst make possible, never buy ADVENT

Advert is made by Medion, German. Typically msi components. Not bad. ps I could be wrong.

Is this quad-core?

And how does the AMD HD6670 rate as a graphics card?

Yes it's a quad core and it's not the best, better than cards like 8800GT but not as good as 550ti's etc.

Currys up there with the most complained about retailers in Europe! Absolutely refuse to hand over a single penny to them any more. Nice PC though
#18
would this be good for audio editing?
#19
Thanks.

In your opinion, is Advent that bad as some are saying?

Depends what your using it for tbh, it'll be fine for most users, it's not 'advent' as such, it's intel processor, gigabyte mobo, etc etc.. it'll be fine, people just love a good old winge about some random guys one bad experience once..

This seems like a good deal to me, had an Advent Pc some years back and didnt have any issues with it.

Will tell my mate about this deal as he is looking for a new pc. Components wise it seems very good for the price!

Should be, although I'm not up-to-date with price/performance of modern day graphics cards

Yes

It is quad core*. Check out this link and find that card on the list:
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

*The i5 / i7 range are generally better than most quad cores and on-par with 6/8 core AMD CPUs.. Within reason

I agree with this 100%
Just don't believe reviews which condemn an entire brand from one bad experience. If you believe everything you read then every brand would be a no-go :)

Bought one of these when they were on offer last week. It came with the hard drive loose in the case. Contacted Currys who said they had no more and to return it for a refund. I have a good computer friend who reattached the drive and checked it and it is fine. I wonder if these are returns from last week? Good spec though.
#26
Just bought the last one :)
Thanks very much to the OP, am very happy with purchase, seems like a lot of computer for the money.

Missed out on the exact same deal a couple of weeks ago when someone bought the last 5 all at once, so if you missed this one, I'm sure they will list some more at the same price fairly soon.

Got here a bit too late!

I went for one when they had 4 left.

Did you get one?

Its wierd I hear people slaging off ADVENT.

My first PC was an ADVENT and it was the mutts. Easy to upgrade when it got slow (4 years after I got it) and my daughters laptop was an ADVENT and was great, never any problems.

I like ADVENT stuff, never had any speed, overheating etc issues at all.
#32
Glad you all liked my post. I have an Advent i7 quad core 8GB Ram 2TB HDD purchased last year from Currys Ebay and so far I'm very pleased with it, renders HD video really fast. The pc is very quiet and is switched on from 7am to midnight everyday. Your best bet is just whipping the side casing off when you receive yours just to make sure their is nothing loose inside. Otherwise hopefully like mine, you should be happy with your purchase.

Just for what its worth Advent isn't a manufacturer but a brand name Dixons Store Groups Own (DSG being Dixons, Currys, PC World, Jakarta) and rebadge products they purchase/order from multiple suppliers. This means sometimes Advent computers are very good value for money, made out of off the shelf components - sometimes not so good (remember a batch of centreprise (advent labelled) laptops that were especially poor one year). So really depends on the individual item on how good it is and the price of this looks good (closer to what dixons will have paid suggesting they are clearing out this inventory).

Another example of a Dixons brand name that might make more sense to more people here is that of MATSUI (used due to it sounding Japanese) - when a TV is a rebadged Phillips (Dixons may go and buy a large quantity of their production line to be badged Matsui) it pretty much means this TV will be of a higher spec/quality than a batch of rebadged Goodmans TV's from the cheaper end of the spectrum although both may be labelled MATSUI with differing model numbers !!!

The RAM and Processor are good for gaming, the graphics cards...well why bother with two 6850's? You realise that SLI/Xfire has always been pretty **** in comparison to just getting one more expensive and better card. You'd get a lot more for your money buying one £200 half-decent cards than two £100 cards - anyone that tells you that you need more than one decent graphics card with a processor like this is a moron.

Nothing wrong with advents, ive still got an old p4 advent t9000 that works (you have to leave it plugged in for close to an hour if you want it to boot up first time, other wise it just get stuck and you can here the hdd trying to spin but it cant quite get there!, is that a PSU or HDD issue?)

but that PC is 10 years old, and had some hard use over the years. My other PC is an advent centurion cbe1401 which got bad reviews here http://www.trustedreviews.com/Advent-CBE1401-Centurion---AMD-Watercooled-Gaming-PC_Desktop-PC_review

but I only payed £170 for it from pcworld refurb ebay outlet and its awesome.

this pc is a bargain.

When I said if I changed the two, I meant changed the PSU and GPU that comes as standard to something different as mentioned, not to 2 sets of HD6850 cards, sorry for the confusion.

To all the Advent Haters, I got the PC this morning and it works great and really quiet :p, So the lesson to others is "don't always listen to others"
