The Advent brand is PC World's own make. I've looked at this laptop in real life and the build quality is pretty cheap.

That said a core i3 laptop for £299 looks tempting, even as a refurb it's the cheapest i3 I've seen.

i meant refurbished, that was the last word when i posted!

yeah i know, i originally posted it without refurbished in it, but I didn't want people getting angry because I left it out, so they thought it was maybe brand new :/

In my experience, PC World's refurbished laptops are almost guaranteed to have dead pixels.

something isnt right about these, i wanted one new but they are no longer available online, in the shop they dont have this spec with the i3. it looks ok up close i thoughtbit they must have a problem with this spec if u can only buy a refurb, just wonder whether its really been fixed

I bought 6 or 7 refurbished laptops from DSG and they always had 'something' - dead pixels or various motherboard problems. The biggest pain however are the 'tech guys' - their clueless, working with scripts tech support - absolutely awful service.

One of the refurbished Advents I received from DSG had fans going off and on every 10-15 seconds (very annoying) but it didn't qualify for a repair...because 'tech guys' did not have that kind of fault in their scripts.I was very fortunate to name the problem within the first days, thus I could send it back within the 7-days cooling off period .Obviously, I could not add any note about the fault,so very likely somebody bought it again :(

think about why they are so cheap

I dont think thats true in every case of having dead pixels.

Dixons price £285 with 5% discount applied automatically at checkout
At £285 think its a good price for what you get

Even with such a low price tag taken into account it may not be a good value. Personally, unreliable laptop is worth nothing to me.

Why do people put all this refurbished rubbish on here ?

hi
Does anyone looking at this have a backup disc for the ADVENT K1301P or know were I can get one for my mother - she bought this about 18mths ago, and when it was just a month out of warrenty it got a bug and crashed (which is amazing as she doesnot even know how to go onto the internet!)

Unfortunately, she is not able to find the disc I had done a while before, and whilst we have managed to get it running again, it is now an autistic computer - it only recognises it's own world and not the internet - and PC world want to charge a fortune to 'restore' it......which is difficult as my mother had just retired, she bought this computer to have something to do!
Please help!
Will be happy to pay for the cost of a cd disc and postage!...
Thank you

I agree with regard DSG refurbs but the Dell refurbs are excellent.
