The best Android tablet at it's normal price point of £249, now available from PC World business for £204 + £12 delivery.

Key features:
Processor - NVIDIA T20 Tegra 2
Operating System - Android 2.2
Graphics card - T20 Graphics Card Model
Screen size - 10.1", WSVGA, 1024 x 600 pixels
Memory - 512MB NAND Flash Drive (4GB microSD card supplied for expansion)
Memory card reader - microSD card slot
Wi-Fi - 802.11b/g WLAN

I bought one for my wife before Christmas, the BEST present I have every given her. Great for browsing the internet, playing games, watching Flash videos, playing Flash games (specific mention of Flash to make Ipadders jealous).

The only real criticism from others is the screen viewing angles, but we are happy with ours - not great for sharing but fine for single person use.

Plenty of previous threads with loads of information, e.g.

You'll get the best out of the tablet by following tips and advice on Modaco:

Yes, an Ipad is slicker, and the Ipad1 1 is down in price, but this is still a great tablet for the price.

£211.17 with economy delivery.

Thanks for posting this, I was going to get one from the airport (2nd May) but now I don't have to wait and only a few quid more.

I have never heard of pc world business.

Cracking deal this!

I paid more for mine but then that's tech for ya!.

Can't really fault the tablet either for the money. It's become almost a desktop pc replacement.

I bought my wife's before Christmas, with the expectation that this would be the start of a flood of similar priced and specced Android tablets. No sign of them yet, 3 months on!

You spoke too soon! The Motorola Xoom will be out early next month for around £450-500 and is likely to be the best android tablet yet....admittedly being nigh on twice the price you'd expect it to be!.

These Advents are great value for money and battery life is astonishing at over 8 hours and potentially nearer 10 for mixed use.

How come this same thing is £239.99 at Curry's.
Which is part of the same group as PC World.

Anyone know of any alternatives to the DSG accessories.

I like the idea of an Android tablet - but this has an awful screen and an OS designed for mobile phones. Right now the iPad is the best tablet on the market (better than the Xoom which is great but ultimately has nothing to use it for right now).

Erm, the iPad runs iOS, an OS developed and designed for....wait for it....a mobile phone! which in itself is just a glorified MP3 player with phone features tacked on.

Cant deny the claims on screens though, but it really does depend on the user.

And the Xoom (and subsequent tablets) runs Android, and OS developed and designed for....wait for it....a mobile phone.

But like IOS on iPad, Honeycomb is an implementation of Android designed with Tablets firmly in mind so it actually offers a better user experience.

Out of stock now :(
#13
lol, there was only 2 in stock.......I would keep checking the website though, they seem to get drip feeds of stock every week or so.

PCWB is a good place to get bargains from. A year or so back I got a pre-launch Revo dual core (3610) for less than £150 delivered from PCWB. Even with all the decent Revo deals I never saw a similar one to mine get anywhere near that price!

When I got mine there were 7 in stock, but it had already been posted on Modaco.

A. Yes

B. The iPad didn't fulfil her desires ;-)

My wife was a technophobe until she saw the iPad when they were launched in the States, and badgered me to get one.....until I explained that she wouldn't be able to do half what she usually used my laptop for. The Vega does everything she needs, and better than she expected.

I knew about the Xoom (and others), that's why I was specific about the pricepoint :-)

I stand by my comment

though it appears someone has edited it. I didn't know anyone else could edit my posts!

The Archos 101 is probably the closest, I just expected others to be launching by now.

Needs expiring, it's up to £238.80 inc. VAT now. :(

It's not too bad. Screen is poo, loses Internet connection.

Put modaco on it when it came.
Still prefer my android phone.

Fair enough mate you did indeed say similarly priced which I missed!. The Archos I feel isn't competition for the Vega due to numbers of DOA issues especially screen. I'm an Archos fan but wouldn't go near the 101.....

Wouldn't mind a 70 though for use on flights :)

Hmmm, you don't sound overly enthused mate. Are you disappointed? I keep thinking about ordering but would really prefer to try one out before I commit but Comet/Pc World never have the bloody things in stock!!!!
#25
This is now back to the deal price BUT, reading the Ts&Cs, I'm more than a little concerned that as a 'Business Customer' I'm not entitled to the same protection as a Retail Customer. 7 day return policy for example.

I'm just not sure.....!
#26
Not that impressed really. But I will just have to put up with it.

In the terms it quite costly to return it even if its still sealed, restocking fee etc.

Could you be a bit more specific gav? Sorry to push you, just want to know where you feel it falls down mate.
Thanks in advance.

Its sluggish at times and feels a big lump to be holding. The screen is quite long so when holding it in the portrait position looks quite laughable.

The viewing angle is better by using it the wrong way up (i.e with camera at the bottom) but this means the buttons are not easy to use.

For the money its ok, but I don't think I will fall in love with it.

When I was using it the phone and 8.9" netbook where near by and I kept wanting to pick those up as it would be quicker and easier to finish whatever I was doing.

Lots of people rate these but I feel that something more portable would have suited me better. I was hoping it would be like using my desire but with a bigger screen.
#29
Hmmm, thanks for that mate. The 'sluggish' bit worries me I must admit.

I see it's been reposted.

Its not always sluggish. But when it is its annoying. Keyboard sometimes hits the same character twice also.

Just a thought, did you reboot it after flashing with Modaco? Apparently it can take one or two boots for it to settle down (God knows why).

Been playing with it all day and I'm starting to get to like it. In fact the wife keeps asking if I'm addicted to it. I think its just a matter of getting used to the layout and how it works.

Put the Folio case on from Currys which makes it look better. Only trouble is from what other owners have said is the case gives a little with use and the tablet can fall out.

There is a code to get £10 off the case - ADVENT10

A tip for you. Move as many apps as possible to a decent speed micro-sd and keep internal memory lean. Also keep tabs on software that hasn't properly closed down upon exit by going into settings and manage running apps.

Miren and built-in browsers are a bit pants compared to the excellent Dolphin HD.

Now if someone finds a way to get 720p MKVs to play decent please let me know because this is the devices biggest letdown at present. Streaming music while surfing or working is a nice plus and Google Apps are getting a decent selection.

Still the best value per spec tablet in my opinion.

Can someone tell me how to block annoying Apple fanboys like this? They clearly don't comprehend that a large proportion of the population are far too smart to get themselves into locked down iPad/Pod/Phone and Kindle rubbish.

Lol be prepared to do a great deal of blocking then because unfortunately you could apply that stereotype to at least half the members of this website!

You could use the ignore button on the right of the post. It has a little X on it. Then you won't see their posts whenever they post into ANY deal. It is easily turned back the same way you turned them off.
