Where from, LINK please???

See my post above ICTHUS. Remember to use Quidco (4% cash back). ;)

It states no stock but they order on request. I was going to order this this morning but I'm just not sure about the Vega (screen viwing angles etc), and the fact that this is PC World Business so you're not covered under the sale of goods act like you would be if buying from a normal retailer.

Reet, PCWB again, but they are showing 0 in stock so this is a buy to order deal then? Not voting either way, but I would rather have an "in-stock" deal......But thanks for the heads up ;)

Bought one yesterday for £250 , over £10 cash back , flased it which was a bit of a pain , have to say I really like it though
#8
Just to say that if you pop into PCW you can blag the screen protector and leather case for free - I picked up the full set for £239 about 3 weeks back.

on paper a better deal than the samsung tab, be interesting if anyone has used both.
#10
Not sure it is a better deal, they have their ups and downs, the Tab is much lighter, somewhat more pocketable, 3g, has more memory built in and has same resolution on a smaller screen. Not to mention it's a retail purchase rather than a business one.

Upsides on this one, bigger screen and more powerful processor and graphics.

Agree and very good points but the other major plus side is that this is 33% cheaper than the samsung galaxy tab. Personally I care more about portability than anything, so would probably go towards the tab, but then I don't have the money for something which is basically a luxury item.

Wouldnt be buying any tablet at the moment as i think i with new versions of Ipad and Galaxy coming out at the moment and Honeycomb on the horizon currently tablets prices will drop. IMO of course.8)

Dont think so, have you seen the spec of the Vega? the new Tab and iPad can come but this uses the new super powerful Dual Core tegra2 chip which will be better than anything Apple has on the new iPadand yes I own a iPad. Dont forget that the Vega was only available in December so its only 3-4 months old and the Tab will more than likely be using this very same Nvidia chip and remember that the Tab and iPad will cost £450+ with Quidco this comes in at £206 which is less than half the price of either. This also has a way better modding community behind it so if there's no official Honeycomb for it, which I doubt as Advent have said it will get it, the Modders will soon have a working Rom for it so its a win win situation.

Used one at work and it seems pretty sucky to me.

on paper a better deal than the samsung tab,.

Must have been a very small piece of paper. It didn't have room for the fact that the Tab is a phone.
#16
Anyone had problems with distorted audio? There is a thread on Modaco around 3.5mm headphone out being to high..

Just beware that this is a business web & contract thus no '7 days return' + couple of other dodgy points in T&C + DREADFUL service from DSGi Business. There are no bargains with DSG, you can't win.

I mentioned this earlier 7 but there's nothing wrong in repeating what is, in my opinion, a VERY important point regarding purchases from a 'Business Site'.

It really needs to be said that this is a tablet for people who are happy hacking/modding hardware - out of the box it's pretty terrible (no Google support/apps/Market and some performance issues).

Modaco's ROM transforms it into a MUCH better device and it's not really that hard to do - but it's not for your regular consumer to do either.

Comparisons to the Galaxy Tab are complex - the Tab is a proper 'Google authorised' Android with all the extras which means it works "out of the box" BUT it's quite a bit smaller (it's really not a tablet - it's a "fat" smartphone) and it's CPU is slower.

Thing is tho - Samsung are notorious for not offering OS upgrades for their hardware and it's unlikely you'll see much from Advent either - so neither one is really a 'future proof' solution. In some ways, the more 'open' nature of the Advent may mean it remains useful (thanks to Modaco and the like) for longer...

Horses for courses really...

No mate why should I joke about it? It's a fact. People who buy this Advent tablet are most likely going to rely on third party support which comes with many risks and heavy reliance on forum members to remain interested in their devices.

Not everyone and the average consumer will want to risk flashing their tablets; not only does it void any warranty but it also requires some knowledge, lots of technical reading and a risk of bricking the device and causing a whole heap of unknown problems.

Suffice to say if people (techno geeks) can live with that then fair enough, but it is hardly intuitive for the average Joe Bloggs. That is where Apple are dominant because their devices are truly "User Friendly"

It's just a matter of horses for courses but not all of us have the luxury of time to hack a tablet and then go back and forth every day to websites looking for updates of firmware which resolves many of the bugs or hoping that some enthusiastic developer has ported honeycomb on to it.

I have a ipad and now im getting this, your a fanboy that's why you've come on here crowing the ipad has no flash and even with skyfire its crap, the ipads good but a quick mod on the Vega and its as good and way more powerful infact its way more powerful than the new ipad. If you dont have the knowledge then the Vegas is no good for you your best sticking with the ipad as even my dog can use that.

It doesnt do anything an IPad can do[/sarcasm]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL7yD-0pqZg - This perfectly sums up the Apple fan boys tbf, haven't had a good a laugh in a while

And Its applicable to Ipad/Android Tablets

edit: Saw this a few days back, wondered how long it would be before the Apple fanboys came saying how bad it is compared to the Itampon

and your as much restricted by a few developers at modoca, so what is the difference? If the modoco devs keel over then what will you do?

Does anyone know if this device is compatitable with pdf? I have not owned any of these devices before and currently looking to buy kindle to store some of my pocket books. Im wondering if it's worth to buy these instead of a kindle?

Majnu, what a poorly thought out comment. There are loads of people not just those at Modaco making custom ROMS for android devices, its just thats the most popular.

What happens to Apple when Steve Jobs isn't there? Does Apple shut its doors, no, there will be someone to take over the helm. Please think before posting.

Yeah, shame as it's a good deal too.

I think everyone who has to bicker about Apple and Android should be given an old Nokia and 386 laptop to appreciate that both Apple and Android are great, respectively. I say that because I've owned an Iphone 3G which is the best phone I've ever had (currently on Orange San Fran) but devices like Galaxy Tab and Desire HD make Android brilliant.

I think everyone knows you can have 'freedom' with Apple. It's called Cydia, and it's been around for years.

Go to another dev forum where people and developers like to gather and laugh at Apple fanboys, like XDA Developers?
Numpty.

Where do you go for your custom iPad ROM's?

Oh wait...

I've had one of these since launch. My wife flashed it with a rom from Modaco and we use it all the time for internet surfing and games. Its not the best as an e-reader as its a little too heavy but the tegra 2 processor means games and apps are very quick. I wouldn't trade it in for an iPad as it does all the things I need from a tablet.

The screen viewing angles aren't the best but for the price, the hardware is very good. Much quicker than my smartphone to use.

Cheers

good price for decent spec, but i think I'll wait for the Xoom as it seems to be the ****

You Fandroids seem to get so butthurt over the slightest provocation. Simply speaking Majnu is right, if the guys at Modaco didn't create their own custom ROMs for this device there would be NO support and NO updates. Why should I have to rely on the community to provide support when its the job of the manufacturer? And for those thinking community provided custom ROMs are better than Apple's official firmware, please go sit in the corner and think about what you said.

This also runs an version of Android that is designed for small screened phones and not tablets. I cannot stress enough how much of a bodge this is, even Google have acknowledged this with their own custom Honeycomb variant of Android, which this will probably never get officially.

Then again, £211 is the cheapest I've seen this tablet so heat added. But be warned 99.9% of people without GNU tshirts and neckbeards will be much better off with a 1st generation iPad for around £300.

You are comparing a corporate giant like Apple to a few enthusiastic developers at Modaco, hardly the same comparison. If Jobs was to die then the company has a structure in place. Anyway like I said this device is for the techno geeks, who are happy with it. But to any person thinking about buying one expecting support and updates from the manufacturer Advent - then don't. This device is only good once hacked.
