Good price, very tempted, or may get the Archos 101? Any ideas anyone between the two.
#2
This really does keep coming down in price, does anyone know if a Honeycomb ROM will be/is available to flash?
#3
Get the Vega as you can get Market access and install different Roms.
#4
im in same boat Archos 101 is very nice, not sure i like the border o nthe Vega and with all the new tabs due out soon. But the price !
#5
Great price for such a beast - I would think that the spec would be virtually identical - would be tempted to go for the cheaper one

Head over to Modaco to get all the Goodies
#8
I've just phoned Dixons at the airports -it's still £207 there......?
A bit of a bargian.
#9
I have on of these (paid the full price tho :| ) Its a great piece if kit but with the way the price is coming down I have a bad feeling that HC wont be coming to it!! Especially with the rumour that HC needs 1GB of memory to run.
#10
no 3G in this?
#11
No just Wifi version
#12
Definitely go for the Advent over the Archos - the Advent uses a dual core chip, whereas the Archos is only a single.
As people are saying, they're great little devices for a reasonable cost. It really comes to life when you modify it with a Modaco rom then start to add your own apps to customise and personalise.

Great piece of kit. I've had this since christmas and use it everyday on the tube to read. At home the family use it to casually browse the web and it runs throusands of games, apps and all sorts.

Defo worth it at this price.

The stylus for note taking and OnLive support (Which I assume will eventually be UK Bound) is pushing me towards the HTC Flyer.

Though these deals make it very difficult for "Mr Plastic" The Mastercard to say No!
#15
What's the real battery life like on these then?
#16
This device is ace, the battery life on mine is about 2 days with medium use. :)

paid £250 for mine only 2 weeks ago, gutted!
#17
hi all, do Currys Price match Dixons' online price?
#18
Can you get it at this price in store?
Can you order and pickup in store?
#19
When are they going to start doing this at a decent price £80-£120?
#20
How do these handle pdf's?, any lag or slowdown when reading them?......Does it also play flash games and video?
#21
Great piece of kit.
Just head over to modaco forums and learn all you need to know.

There are no Dixons stores (apart from airports)

Currys will be more expensive

Doubt they will. A decent netbook costs around £140 and think this is about the cutoff point for these too.
#24
Has anyone mentioned 3% TopCashBack? I'm going for it.
#25
Handles PDFs very well plays 1080p video not tried flash games but there are plenty of games on the marketplace like Angry Birds! and you can even plug it into the TV! (HDMI)
#26
3% quidco too

My son has the Archos 101 and well pleased with it, had it since jan and looks nice and not bulky, depends on what you want.

Don't know much about this, any links to a review about it? Can I download apps from the android market to play on it?
#29
i might get one of these very tempted will see what happens in few weeks or months time

I need to get saved for my dads laptop first and then get one of these and pay off my clubbies so need to save

50 + 320 + 287 + vega cost £199 = 900 or there abouts i need to save

i wish the catalouge would take one of these in

I'm very tempted by this, but as a large portion of my use would be video the thread on the Modaco forum about distorted audio puts me off.

Seems dixons are having problems with their payment verification at the moment, failed to authorise two attempts from me but when I checked with my cardhandler no authorisation check had been made from dixons

I hve an ipad 2 on order but stil fancied trying android

Wait until Friday, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is rumoured to be going down to around £250 that day
#34
Fantastic value, we bought 2 in December at the old price.
#35
Good: fast, plays mkvs, hackable for market and 3g

Bad: poor screen, Android 2.2 not great on 10" devices, iPad and Galaxy Tab not much more.
#36
Checking my back emails I find that the last time I tried to order from Dixons they said the item was mis-priced and cancelled.
#37
the 3g is it done via usb port
#38
I ordered one of these last week at a slightly higher price from PC World Business having seen the thread on HUKD. Called PCWB just now to cancel my order as Dixons now have it cheaper. They will (and did) price match and remove P&P as I said I could also do reserve and collect at Dixons (which is the same company).

iPad and Galaxy Tab not much more.

You cant get much more inaccurate than that. £100 less = 50% less. You call 50% less not much more ?

The ipad doesnt do Flash, has no usb or hdmi, no upgradable storage and you have to jailbreak to get an acceptable level of media playback compatability. For £200 this is a complete bargain end of story.

Also its a capacitive screen its not a poor screen at all its a decent size its just not as good as the ipads. These play web based flash games providing they dont require a keyboard no problems.

On a side note the tech spec for this will quite easily run Honeycombe I would be amazed if there is not a rom available for it in due course.

We have an Ipad and a Vega tab in out house, so unlike 99% of people who comment on this on here I am qualified to compare them.

Heat from me..

I had one before Christmas, and really miss it now it's gone..

As everyone keeps saying , head over to modaco, vega.modaco.com, all you need to do is
1. Put the official 1.09 firmware on (Gives you Flash)
2. Put the modaco r8 additions on, gives you the market, and optimised stuff.

Then look at LauncherPro (Free on the market place), or ADW (Free again) and use those for your 'desktops'..

The best handheld browsing experience, lightening fast, and Angry birds is immense!
