paid £250 for mine a month or so ago, still well worth it though... have custom rom running on it to make the most of it and get access to the market :)

I got mine at this price from Dixon's in recent deal (price gone up now). You really must get the custom ROM from MoDoCo - makes a vast difference. There is a lot of advice on their site too.

edit- before they start, this is a Capacitive touch screen, unlike a lot of the cheaper resistive screen models posted here.

Tempted!

But why do I want one!?

House is full of PC's MP3's & android phones

Really want one of these, but trying to justify it between a 2 year old Macbook and a brand new HTC Desire HD is difficult (and all the game consoles and TV's)

I'll see how good the next paycheck is and whether or not I can waste £200....

I think that is a really good price. The only thing is I doubt that Advent will bother to update this to Android 3.0 even though it's capable of running it. Looks like they might be selling these off to replace with a newer model or sales are poor.

This device is amazing with a custom rom installed, the community will deliver android 3.0 I would imagine buy one you will like it.

to be honest i doubt it could run it well at all, the asus transformer has 1gb and gets through it just acceptably but with occasional hiccups, a paltry 512mb with honeycomb? doubt its worth the effort of advent at least, probably there will be a rom for it in the future.
and before anyone says anything about the ipad2 having only 512mb ram, it is quick LPDDR2 ram as well as iOs designed specifically with the hardware in mind very unlike andoid.

it was this price a couple of weeks ago.

Could I use this instead of a wd live to play films through tv?
Seems to have hdmi and also usb input.
Just was wondering if it renders hd ok and whether it would support many different codec
#14
Seems a really good deal

#17

Played around with one of these on display and it sucked.
#21
had one since launch. screen viewing angle can be a pain at times but i've now got used to it and enjoy using this device.

Modaco rom and other tweaks has turned this into a worthy device and worth every penny

it's stopped me using my macbook pro as my surfing tool so i see that as a plus point.
#22
The stock rom that it ships with puts the unit to shame. Once you install an adding such as the modaco rom you have a really powerful device in your hands

Can anyone tell me please does BBC iPlayer work well with this? And does iPlayer allow you to download programmes on it?
#24
@happysteveo I use iplayer on mine for radio, i'm sure tv works as well using the android app from the market. There is something called tv links that's meant to be impressive too.
#25
Whats the battery life like?

thanks. does iplayer on there give you the option to download programmes?

Can anyone tell me how this compares to the Dell Streak? I am a complete beginner and don't fully understand the jargon but was hoping to get one for my son's birthday (surprise) and I am totally bamboozled. Thanks in advance!
#28

#29
@happysteveo can check tomorrow, or pop over to the modaco forum tons of stuff to read before buying, once you've paid and why you wait for dhl to deliver

I bought one and try the hdmi output on my 50" TV and the definition was very poor.
But very good to browse the internet. Mine had a faulty screen and I sent it back to pc world...

I played with one of these in PCworld before I bought it too... yeah it sucked, but remember that those display ones have to put up with a load of people putting their hands all over them, and also the staff generally don't know what they're doing.
When I decided to buy mine it took 3 sales staff to actually find the stock (about 20 mins) and they had about 15 in stock too, so it's not like it was the last one they were looking for, LOL

Mine even as it came works about 5 times better than the display model they had... and with the custom ROM works about twice as fast again :)

It plays content ok but no MKV and support for NTFS etc you could set it up for movies but the WDTV is a great machine.
That said you can add USB slave support and NTFS MKV can probably be added and then it would be close to a WDTV.

Just need a remote I'm sure an Andriod Wifi based remote to your phone would be on the cards.

Iplayer works well.

Get the custom ROMS for this to replace the stock firmware adds Market, Honeymoon, etc...

Vplayer is not bad the stock player is also good.

Can you not put something like VLC Player on it to play the mkv files?

I tried but good not get any of the free VLCs to play.

Video playback on the Vega is getting a lot better and I expect tegra 2 based software to improve over time.

The Vega can do full 1080p and has hardware decode for h.264

Many folk use the transcoder route I was after local playback only.

is there a link to somewhere that has step-by step instructions on how to install this mocado rom?
#39
not sure if its ok to link to it, but if u google "vega modaco" there's a pinned topic for custom rom that should tell u all u need
#40
just a note. although the OP title says 512mb. the description on the website says you get a 4gig card as well...
