I bought a second hand phone off eBay and it was CHEAPER THAN BRAND NEW!!!

Heading off to another post to explain how second hand CRTs are cheaper than brand new OLEDS TVs...

Bought a Toyota celica for £1200
Three years later, still got it and just got another 12 months mot, cost us nothing
Next, onto an MR2....same expected there and I own the car.
These deals are crud.

You own some old Toyotas. Wow. Congratulations. What an achievement. All these years I've been driving new cars with modern technology, safety, economy and style when I could have been driving a £1200 knacker. How stupid of me. I could have OWNED something not worth owning, all this time....

£1,800 to hire a car for a year?
Yes less than a fiver a day to hire a brand new car with no running costs is an exceptional deal. Go and work out the running costs over a year of the £2k bangers others are hilariously harping on about - oh wait you can't as no one will know just what will need repairing on them or how often they will break down.

Preconceptions of older cheap cars?

All these arguments ref new, lease or 2nd hand are very repetitive on HUKD's.
If you were going for understatement you nailed it X). Repetitive, tedious, dull, irrelevant, daft... ad nauseum, ad infinitum...
You being a great exponent of the English language will then understand my frustration of repetitive postings on differing HUKD pages If that's what you think then I applaud you for being an egoistic ****.

Sooo.... did you just interpret my post agreeing with you as an insult?

Right then... I'll have to remember not to agree with you any more X)

Haven't called them myself and I'm not sure if they're tied into certain employers where you might get a discounted rate. Big assumption that it's for 2 years. Call at your own peril! Just thought

CD player isn't standard in any new Astra, that I'm aware of anyway. Even the Elite.

giving lease cars back at end of term, I got hit for £1100 bill of Mercedes . and honestly didn't think there was much wrong with it.....not nice....and trust me they'll chase ya with a debt company to get it!......

Seems to depend on the lease company, i've had 2 with Lex and they've never chased any outstanding payments for damage. Granted it was just kerb damage to wheels x 2 on a Mondeo & x 3 on a Volvo V60. Their price for a kerbed alloy was £60 per wheel (cheaper than the £150 i was quoted to repair them given they're diamond cut on the V60). It was marked on the vehicle inspection at collection however i've never heard anything. Mondeo was 4 years ago, V60 18 month ago

Buying this car outright is £24K on Drive the Deal.
Current 3 year old models are advertised for £12k-£14k so the depreciation of £11k is about right in terms of the PCP deal. You don't have to worry about selling the car.

You can't buy a 3 year old MK7 GTD, this is a huge step up from the MK6 you have prices for.

Correct, it was a MK 6 but that's all we have to go off right now and given the Models are fairly similar, residuals are the same.

Absolute minimum you will be talking GFV, which is around £14700 for a 5 door GTD with no options. At that point, financed people would just be handing back the keys if they had to pay a bigger final payment than it was worth.

You will get more than that at p/x because the dealership will want you to think you;ve got some equity against the new car you'll possibly order 3 years after the current one. At a VW dealer, you'll get £15000-15500 against your next car and they'll have it up for £18k.

Don't know where you've been looking for your bargain basement 3 year old GTD (MK6), but on the VW UK website used car search, March/April 2011 examples with 30-45k miles are around the £17-18k mark (the main reason I buy VWs new rather than nearly new). The GTD has such good residuals when compared to the rest of the range, the GTD can be financed for the same monthly amount as the 150TDI GT that costs £2500 less, because it will be worth £2500 more (GFV) after 3 years..

I was looking on Autotrader. No point looking at VW Dealership prices as that would tie you into either p/x for a another VW car or just get trade value. That won't suit everyone. Need to see what you could easily get for cash.
The point was if you bought the car outright (but only wanted for 3 years) then you would be lumbered with having to sell it for ~13k-14k.
With 11k PCP you can just hand the car back and not worry (unless it needs some work doing on it before handing back in).

Unless they were inundated with used stock, most VW dealers would buy your GTD off you for GFV, even if you weren't getting another.

For similar money I'd rather have a Golf R even though it's a petrol and thirstier! :)

There are some cheap R leases about right now, as cheap as the cheapest GTD lease deals.
