its only bloatware if you install the full suite. The burning elements are rather good.

imgburn is free and better. Nero used to be good but just bloatware nowadays
#6
Good tips thanks. Didn't think u could do a custom install of nero essentials to remove the bloat bitsa (at least I couldn't do when I last tried)

ConvertxtoDVD is better than Nero as Nero is a Memory Hog.You can get Convertxtodvd from Link below as it's FREE & most people use this software for Burning.

As someone has already pointed out, You could use ImgBurn it's Light & FREE from Link below.

I do think you are comparing apples & pears sometimes. Nero has a lot more native functionality than some of the free products. OK, it's probably more than anyone will ever need, but people' choice of product will be determined by what they need from it. For instance, I don't see any backup functionality in ConvertxttoDVD.

I'm all for free stuff but remember that not everyone is geeky and some would prefer a mainstream product which has an intuitive and straightforward interface and proper online support

Everyone suggesting imgburn and convertxtodvd, that about creating a data dvd, or am audio cd, neither of them can do that can they? Nero does.....

thanks i guess is what i meant to say. i tried imgburn a while back and found it confusing im not much of a techie, lost patience req'd.

I stopped using Nero quite a few versions ago.

I have tried quite a few others, but my favourite currently is Ashampoo's Burning Studio. It has a nice clear interface which is easy to navigate and is ideal for some friends of mine who are not 'techy' and need something simple :-D

I see there's a free version here http://download.cnet.com/Ashampoo-Burning-Studio-Free/3000-2646_4-10776287.html though on version 9 myself......

Good price on this though as posted

When you say bloatware can you tell me what you mean?
What does install?

I'm using Nero7, am I bloated??? :)
#16
Still using my trusty copy of Nero 6 (Lite edition).

No bloatware or junk attached and does exactly as it says on the tin. The good OLD Nero days.

Bloatware means the package has a lot of functions added, most which you will never use. But with nero, you can just install the bare minimum and it's very fast and, IMO, the most reliable.

A version upgrade is only neccessary when you change your hardware (e.g. get a new writer or computer). With older versions you might not get the latest driver and your new hardware may not be recognised by older version Nero.

When ppl experience problems with cd/DVD writers, it is mostly due to the fact that they don't update their writer firmware to the latest version and then blame the discs or writer software..

!!!!!!????
Audiograbber is a very good front end for a CD ripper, using any codec like LAME to convert (music) CD's to MP3 or other music file formats - and NOTHING to do do with burning CDs!

Avoid any versions of Nero after v6, which is still in use daily here.

If you must use something else, try the freeware CDBurnerXP at http://www.cdburnerxp.se/

Why do people even want another app for burning Data. It's been built into windows since XP

win media player for audio cd's

Convertxtodvd for video

imgburn for images

Nero 7 was the start of bloatware, and it's just gotten worse with the newer versions.

I'd strongly recommend ImgBURN which is very reliable and can do your data CDs.
If you want to make audio CDs then Burrn is pretty good.

Ashampoo Burning Studio Free is my favourite.

The full version of Nero may do, this is the joke that is Nero express which only offers a wizard and not the easier to use full interface.

CDBurnerXP seems to be the other popular free one, it's apparently easier than imgburn and does do audio CDs.

Yes, but you don't run them all at once. I think people forget that.
It works, it's pretty comprehensive and this version is cheap.
