I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago after seeing the deal on here, I'm typing on it now.

Really good tablet, smooth, slick, a real bargain. Get one if you're after a 7 inch.

Whats the script with these things and the rpocessor? Isn't there an inssue with compatability on many apps?
#3
ive heard that you may get ainol if you order one of these ;)

@bilbob The earlier Paladin model from Ainol ran on a MIPS based architecture so was incompatible with many apps. These run an an ARM based A8 Cortex processor so work fine with all the apps.

Troll.yes, pay £400 (minimum) compared to £118. not really comparable on price at least.

Ignoring the name its a pretty good tablet. Support forum on slatedroid is good, worth updating from essential rom 0.6 to 0.9 or higher.

Arm based now so no compatibility issues, even plays some Tegra2 games!
#10
dont forget the chip inside this has the ARM MALI 400 GPU as well as the 1GHZ Cortex A8 (which will overclock easily to 1.2GHZ and potentially all the way up to 1.5GHZ) .. theres no issue at all with the internals having the grunt the only potential issue is the screen resolution and quality ??

as the RIM playbook is being discounted in places for as low as £150 and with if i recollect a higher res and qaulity screen is paying the extra for the playbook worth it ?
#11
100 quid on eBay!

Got mine last week from gadgetfreakz. Was £2 more, but was all set up out of the box and next day delivery. Not sure if futeko do the same, but worth considering if you're lazy like me. :-)

Typing on it now, by the way...

The Playbook has the same res. Main thing against the playbook for me is they've just announced they're dropping the ability to be able to run Android apps - and will be locking people down to their own appstore and suchlike - so thats that one out the window.

Considering getting this tablet for the kids or maybe a refurb Advent Vega

Can this play Asphalt 6, other similiar driving games smoothly?

I'd like a decent handheld Android gaming device for £100-120 if possible

Thanks helpful people in advance :)

asphalt 6 running on the Novo Advanced as a rough idea of speed for it. I think that the Elf is meant to be better than the Advanced, though could be wrong

a better vid - again on Advanced

Can owners of this comment on how they find it? I've a touchpad running cyanogen, but it's not perfect... I'd like to run apps like skype, draw something etc without fuss... any compatability issues at all?
#18
Futeko loves this site, i bet......;)

Mine works fine, not tried Skype video but rest works. I've not had any issues with any apps from market since I updated the firmware to 0.9.

I am more than a bit wary of these early ICS tablets,

Likewise with a complete newbie telling me how good it is.

Y'see, the very fact that the firmware is a 0.9 version is the very reason I asked the question...
#22
Anyone know if this is smoother or faster than the Eken T01 I bought from Futeko a few weeks back? The Eken is OK but quite jittery.
#23
For the price its a pretty good tablet.
Had mine for a month now, got it from Gadget freakz who also have it in stock at a quid more.
Much to my surprise even skype video calling works quite well if you have a decent strength wifi signal.

I've had my Elf since the beginning of the year (too impatient to wait for Futeko to get their orders in and I'd missed out on the Teclast). Only bought it as a Kindle substitute with the ability to play a few games, maybe Skype, etc. As mentioned on here, Slatedroid has an excellent forum for the Elf - I'm currently running ICS 4.0.3 via a ROM built by one of the forum members (the ROM is named Elvish and it's v0.3). How this ROM is set up is it's pretending to be a Samsung Galaxy S 2. I have Skype installed - apparently version 2.5 works with the Elf - but am yet to properly try it out. Full Google Play installed (formerly Android Market), no issues with the likes of BBC iPlayer, Kindle, etc.

Apologies for the ramble and all the parentheses but for what I paid (£127) I've been impressed with it especially from the updates provided from Slatedroid.

Depends if you rather have a 7" screen or a 9.7" IPS screen. That or wait for the new Ainol Novo 7 Mars.

this looks pretty good too.. can anyone comment on this ainols battery life? (sorry....:))
#31
What sort of battery life are owners of this getting?
#32
We're not doing too well with the fnarr fnarr comments on the brand name and screen size. Come on peeps there's nowt on telly

Hmmm....difficult to say really. The Elvish v0.3 ROM I'm running seems to provide good battery life - I used it for searching the Market, bit of Pool Break Pro and was constantly running Avast on it last night and it barely broke a sweat. However, some users on Slatedroid have said theirs runs out quickly; others say it's great.

Probably not much help to you but there are lots of performance stats to be found on Slatedroid that may help better.

Getting about 7 hours battery life on mine surfing the t'internet so battery life seems good to me.
#38
How about watching a film? Easily last long enough to watch one?

Really tempted by these cheaper 'no-brand' tablets as they look seriously good value and a similar rate to what I would value one at.

A90 is tempting too but 4:3 screen puts me off big time as video watching around the house would be pretty much its primary objective!!

with regards to the IPS screen on the A90, I'm partway through reading this

http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/31562-eken-a90-advanced-97-ips-8000mah-battery/

and with the specs here http://www.eken.com/a90/ on Ekens own site, theres no mention that it is even an IPS screen at all?

Mind still got a bit of the thread to read yet
#40
also confused by the a90, does the 10" ips screen really burn that much more power? It's got 5aph battery, yet it runs for less time?
