Saw this groupon deal eariler in week and thought id give it a go. Cheaper than any deal I could find offering similar service.

Bought on thursday, booked in for Saturday 8am. Arrived, car quickly taken in, machine did its work, tested for leaks etc before refilling with the oil and gas. Took around 30mins.

Garage was friendly and didnt try to sell anything else or upsell anything.

This is a north east deal so may only be good for those around that area.

£10 Surcharge if your engine is bigger than 2.5 litre.

PS. Eurocarparts sell the anti bacterial spray. Its discounted at the minute for around £4. Asda also sell an "holts" branded one for £5. Halfords will rip you off for the comma one at £11.

Yeah very true. Its valid for 3months from purchase. I bought then phoned them next morning at 8am. Asked for saturday early as poss, got the 8am slot, but its a 30min or so drive from Gateshead, so early morning. Worth it though, travelling around 1000miles in next week so nice to get it sorted before then.

You may ask them to change your cabin air filter (Many do not change this for years and breath all the crap that accumulate in their air filters).,

30 miles from Gateshead? You're not saving as much unless you get free fuel or run on electric!

Sorry this may be a silly Q, but how do you know your car is a gas refill air con as opposed to the other type?

Im not sure what your asking?

For the others, I did mention it was probally only suitable for those in north east. I didnt mind the 30mile journey as it was alot cheaper than I could find anywhere else. Didnt fancy some spotted teenager at halfords store, emptying a tin of gas into my car without it been tested properly and the old gas/oil removed first.

If you tell me that you had your profile Mini (notMINI) regassed I will bow down. ;)

all cars with air con can be refilled, they are said to lose a small percentage of the coolant every year. So, the older your car the less cold the A/C will be and so a garage can change or refill the gas - cool eh?

£24 near me, still a good deal though.

Just be careful that your aircon does not have a leak, my wifes did, the guy that charged it tested it first, found the leak, fixed it, tested it again, then vacuumed it out and charged it with gas, all for £100.00.

So if you just get it re-gassed and you have a leak you will just waste a load of money. Its worth getting it done properly.

None of my mini (yes classics) have air con, though the jap imports do.

It was on my honda civic.

They will not and cannot regas if the machine detects a leak, its highly illegal.

Went to have mine re-gassed at F1, 15 min on found a leak, cost me nothing as said he didn't have the chance to re-gas. 45min to an hr to do job, so would have been checked, gassed and re-checked, not bad for £40 or £35 with a voucher.
Later found the bottom of condenser eroded and dropped off, quite common apparently.

I think they have to check for a leak first before they regas. Its illegal to regas when there's a leak. With that being said, some places are still poor and don't do the job properly.

If a system has less than 50% of the refrigerant that it should hold in the system, it should be nitrogen pressure tested with 10-15 bar of pressure for 20-30 minutes to confirm the integrity of the system before a 'regas' is undertaken.

Unfortunately not a lot of places know what they're doing with Air Conditioning systems on vehicles, and just recharge the system without correctly testing it first. Which is why so much of this environment harmful refrigerant is leaked into the atmosphere.

Aaaand back to the topic, good price - just make sure they fill it with the correct weight of refrigerant and test the system first otherwise you'll be back to square one.

I asked about my ac on a Facebook page someone posted that halfords advertised on the radio doing it at £29 not heard it myself but may be worth checking

I believe they are just using the EZ Chill kits they sell. Basically a pressure gauge and a tin of gas, but that doesnt test for leaks first or take away the old gas/oil from the system before adding the new gas. It may work, but its not a proper service on the system.

I see another company in the Middlesboro area have a groupon deal for air conditioning service @ 19 quid also. Not sure about any other areas, I just see these things when browsing.

Sometimes if you approach a business to buy outside groupon they can give you a good deal as it saves the groupon cut, but some companies refuse saying they are under contract with groupon.

I'm really wanting this done as the ac is ineffective but I have no trust for garages without adding extra on unfortunately
