why are you forced to take return flight?
What do you mean, you can't enter the US on a one way ticket
what kind of rule is that? what if I don't know my touring schedule?

Booked Osaka with netflights for less than 900 each. You can also break journey on way there, spending a day in Paris, though we didn't do this.

Looks a good deal if you are going anyway, for me I can fly from a regional airport and change at CDG or AMS for little surcharge.

Is there a massive difference in Business Class depending on which aircraft you fly?

I don't find them crap at all. What is a 'better' airline?.

Turkish Airlines and JAL to name two. JAL are usually quite expensive unfortunately but you can get some good deal on Turkish Airlines flights sometimes and Ataturk is pretty painless to connect through (apart from everything being charged in Euros and not Turkish Lira).

WHY are they better? I don't care if the stewardesses don't smile at me. I expect the seat spacing is the same. I am a bit cramped as a six footer, but I don't care. Amsterdam (Schiphol) is easy to transfer through, there are quite a few places to eat, buy things (even second-hand books) etc. The TV screens are pretty small but just about watchable. Moscow is equally easy to transfer through. Aeroflot plies you with drink, if you're really into that sort of thing.
I can't imagine what's so superior about these two that it's worth paying even a penny more for.

They are better, and thus are able to fill their flights at a much higher price point. I have flown UK to Tokyo about 70 times over the past 17 years. I flew both JAL and CX in 1st class earlier this year and was very very impressed

KLM has installed a much nicer business class interior recently, from dismal to very good indeed in one leap

Edited By: quidstretchy on Aug 17, 2014 20:15
Yeah, transfer to another airline would work, but as you may know at least over here that means collecting baggage, and transferring. Just as well going "premium economy" with KLM direct and hassle free. As I say great deal if it works for you.
flashmcnicol
Shame the deal is not on for Fukuoka, KLM fly here too. Fly via Amsterdam to Glasgow/Edinburgh in 14 hours. Would give the olds a chance to visit again. Good deal none the less.

They could just get a jetstar or ANA connection from NRT.

That Maglev hits 431km Per hour at top speed so that 50km distance isnt really an issue

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_Maglev_Train

not like the Easyjet 90 mins €30 coach trip from the destination you thought you'd booked
shame its Airfrance

awful airline

Wont let you check in at initial airport if you are flying via paris so you have to somehow check in Paris, ended up sitting 30 odd seats away from the person i was with for 12 hours (who doesnt like flying at best of times)

no other airline is so incompetent

I also flew back from Rio on Airfrance the same day & same time exactly a year before the airfrance crash (with no survivors) so take that as an omen to never fly with them again.

good price if you dont mind

Shanghai is great fun

That train is a bit quick from the airport

Great deal Stacey!

Aww, i'm stuck though. I always have a decision to make with indirect flights. In this case, i could work overtime for the extra 7 hours i'll be sat in the airport and use the money earned to buy direct flights - strange logic I know but what do others think?

Oh ps, Pudong is far away as you say but it's like being at Gatwick. Also 50km in China is like walking to the corner shop for us Brits, the magnetic trains from the airport run into Shanghai so so frequently.

no no I see your logic! I guess it works for someone who doesnt have the option of over time? or make that stop off part of your holiday? erm I think, airport shopping, a drink? xxx

And thanks for the useful information, I just like to try and keep it honest, nothing worse than someone popping up and saying @OMGGGGGGGGGG 50km from airport and no transfers included xxx

Good price. However I would never fly Air France. Awful safety record, and from speaking to a pilot friend of mine, pilot training is poor.

I feel your pain, a friend once told me they found a pigs eyelash in a Cornish pasty from Sayers - I have not been to Sayers since!

Didn't even really think pigs had eyelashes. But I guess why would't they?

is this deal still on? what are the cheapest flights that everyone is getting?
I got stranded in Singapore when the Icelandic volcano blew. Air France were the ONLY airline that didn't book accomodation for its stranded passengers. Even Ryanair behaved better!
Got a really good price at £382 from Dublin-San fran and then Vegas-london (road trip to Vegas). Problem is getting to Dublin in the first place. No flights early enough before Dublin departure time. (not taking the late flight and 26hr journey!) Also, you have to remember that if any journey to Dublin is delayed and you miss your flight, the airlines won't cover you. Ultimately, I was looking at £100-125 for journey to Dublin and overnight stay. I'd rather pay the premium extra few quid and get ease of mind travelling from London.

A great deal, but unless you're a resident of Ireland or a UK resident getting good prices for travelling to Dublin, this deal is hard to work out.

Am still not managing to find anything - are you people stabbing in the dark and striking lucky with dates or are you using a starting point with cheap fares? Whenever I attemp something it return the flight prices as circa £600 :(

are you booking on KLM????
Yes; I can get it to about £440 now, but still not in to the three hundreds; it seems very much like hit and miss if you pic the right date/travel combination? Is there a way to display the cheap flights and start from there?

Not as cheap as it used to be due to the £ against the $.

I was there May/June and the only area we saved money was the Woodbury Common Outlet. This is about 45mins outside New York and you get the grey line bus from the bus station. $21 per adult.

I saved a fortune in May at Macy's....25% off all menswear and a salesperson who applied the same discount to all my girlfriend's purchases too. Levi's for £25, CK Jeans for £45 (not the basic ones), Replay, Guess etc around 30% the cost of UK prices.
good price for a flight to New York, but if i went at christmas shopping times i'd spend half a day buying knock-offs from China Town then spend the rest of the trip checking out the sights.

I just found Paris very expensive & also boring. Never enjoyed the Eiffel Tower or the Arc de triomphe nor indeed the Louvre.
( Maybe because i went alone although 95% of the time i travel alone & usually have a whale of a time :) )

Only place i have been to i disliked more is Eindhoven :santa:

hmm i'd say your better off staying home n reading the sun with ya greasy fish n chips & pint of beer, sum ppl are just not cut for travel.
For me learning the culture is of most interest. i luv traveling.

On a positive note:

1. At least you have a fair chance of travelling on the date and time you want to - unlike using BA.
2. Chances are that the Air France cabin crew don't whine as much either!

not sure this route still flying with Airbus A330s or A340s?

the aircraft maker, Airbus, had recommended replacing part of the airspeed sensing system on its A330 aircraft and air france still insisted Airbus models including the A330 are "safe to operate.

The disaster of Air France's flight AF 447 (airbus a330) from Rio 2 weeks ago, was the deadliest in the airline's 75-year history, and the world's worst aviation accident since 2001.

Air France are OK unless

you have to transfer in Charles De Gaulle (Paris) which with its annoying additonal security checks, busing around a twenty first century airport and generally slow movement

It makes Heathrow look positively delightful
It's a real pain if you wanted to pick up some glass bottles of duty free your way home!

Hey all:

Turns out 1,000 points is not that much at all (seeing as you need 20,000 for a return Edinburgh- Amsterdam). And whilst tracking this bit of info down, I also found that they are changes their rules and normal members (Ivory) will loose miles collected if you don't fly once every 20 months.

i know I know, that's over a year and a half, but still; I may not go that often?
Thanks, registered. H&R added.
Cheers.
