Heads up the early bird offer ends this evening.
Can't decide if I should go Fri & Sat or if one day is enough to see it all. Thoughts?

Hi, one day there and back is proper hardcore more so if you are driving any distance , even if you live close you have to set of mega early as compacity over the 2 days is 160k ( 80k per day )

Went for the first time last year(shame about f-35) had a great time, probably the most fun day I've ever had taking photos! pics well worth it!
Well that's " another one " that's got the Fairford bug - Brilliant Shots by the way - what camera and lens were you using ( for certain an DSLR )

Mainly used 650D with 100-400 and for wider ones 6D+24-105, if I do go this year thinking about one of those new Sigma 150-600 lenses.

Personally , if you have that size lens and not to get " more of the same " id perhaps do the park and view at ttoersdown ( get there very early as it fills up fast ) on the Saturday and Sunday ( its 10-00 - bargain ) and its completely different then being down end of runway. You will get alot of clos ups , aircraft doing hard rights with vapour of the wings , more action shots instead slow stills if that makes sense ( just as an fyi people that have very deep pockets go for the prime canon lens 300mm with an extender if used in the right light )

Can I ask is the Friday worth considering. Its cheaper and presumably traffic is better. Is there limited flying like Farnborough on the Friday although I went last year and it was still pretty good even though a limited display.

Hi,

Previous years on the Friday you will get arrivals ( static or flying - and when the vulcan has flown she comes in on the friday ) so what the crafty lot al the RIAT have down is make a show of it ( but of course charge money - make more ) any highlights this year ( vulcan and hopefully the F35 ) will fly Saturday Sunday ( or they may do one Saturday - one Sunday ) to try and stop people just going one day and not the next. Personally if you can only make the Friday ( park your car at a pub call the george which is a 15 mins walk - let the landlady know - she is really nice ) walk end of the runway and you get a show for free = and when they come round with the money buckets chuck a couple quid in.

Traffic wise on the friday its not to bad but know they are making a show of it it could be more busy , but now were near as mad as saturday and sunday ( 80k people per day they normally get )

Plus if you park at the george , youve got an easy out and miss any bottle necks.

Cancelled due to bad weather
You heard it hear first

Could you please give me the weather for my birthday at the end of August seeing as you can predict the weather for July?

Last time I went to RAIT it was so hot people were fainting and getting sunstroke.

We stay at a travelodge at Barnwood and leave early and have done really well getting there. A bit of a queue coming out but nothing major.

Used to go to Fairford a few years back. A great day out, spoiled specifically by the disgraceful road access and traffic management. Two hours queuing to get in and the same to get out - quite simply a disgrace.
I can recommend Shoreham. I go down there from Oxford most years.

Shoreham (Sussex) Airshow 31st August - 1st September
Advance Tickets Adult £18, On the Gate £22
Child (12-15) £8 & £10, under 12s Free. Free on-site car parking.

If you can get to Swindon by train, bus, or car, there's a shuttle between the bus station and Fairford for £5 or £6. The bus has a dedicated route and only takes 20 minutes or so.

Have those who have commented ever been to the RIAT? It's an expensive day out but for those interested in aviation it's good value. There are no other comparable air shows in the UK and very few in the whole world.

Why do people vote cold for something they're not interested in? Vote cold if the deal can be beaten elsewhere not because the air show tickets are too expensive for you.
Yes, I have been, as an exhibitor, and it was one of the most disorganised large scale events I've ever been to. Traffic flow on site was awful, largely due to the marshals having less than no common sense.

For everyone attending, road access is abysmal or have they built dual carriageways from the A417 to the site?

Personally, I wouldn't go again unless I was ferried in by helicopter and someone else was picking up the bill for the day.

As this site is not for just for what's cheaper but what's cheaper *and* value for the money, I'm voting cold.

live just up the road so I can see it from my garden.

Just a note that the park and ride mentioned above isn't there anymore
I used to go to Fairford every year as my brother in law is in the aerospace industry and gets free tickets. Last year was the first time I didn't bother going, even the free ticket couldn't sway me. The quality of the flying aircraft has got considerably thinner over the last 5-6 years and I just couldn't face the traffic chaos! Not the show it used to be (still voted hot though as a deal is a deal!).
Follow the link and you will know as much as the rest of us. It is VERY early days yet & very little has confirmed. Hardly surprising really. Keep going back to the list to see what has changed - all part of the anticipation.

Anybody know if the Russian aircraft such as the SU-37 and SU-34 will be going?

I would love to see those jets in action especially with the phenomal maneuvers they can manage!
This is almost certainly the best militiary airshow in Europe and this is the better year as Farnborough is every 2 years & more stuff comes when both shows are on - which they are in 2012.

The better day is purely down to weather.

Unfortunately all Air Forces are both busy & short of money which is limiting their participation in airshows but this will still be better than anywhere else.

By comparison Waddington is a very parochial affair & didn't light my fire at all in 2011.

The amount of planes flying this year seems down on the previous few years. Prob something to do with all the unrest around the world. Great day out though.

And the rubbish weather!
Hmm,

I wonder if they will do this for the FRIAT MACH 3 packages?
