Jesus that's an insane frequency range if it's true, wish I could justify the purchase.

Need a new set of cans, but after missing out on the Q701's on amazon at £165, this seem over priced even though they are a good price. May just wait awhile longer, you never know! :-)

I bought a pair of these and I can now hear things in recordings that I couldn't before. Very good for comfort. Light too. They are insanely good! Hot!

I posted and bought the £164 q701 deal but i dont know how likely it is to come back again and it only lasted a couple of hours between 1-4am.

This deal is much more reliable and the headphones are exactly the same sound wise. Externally almost the same, no funky colours or removable cable - that's about it really.

I think it's safe to say that no specification for either headphones or speakers mean much at all. I have some headphones rated at 5-45,000hz, honestly it means nothing, most humans can only hear 30-18,000hz anyway so it's irrelevant. Even headphone impedance is a dodgy one on it's own. You have to base awesomeness on trying these things and if you can't do that then reviews but certainly not specs. Hifi audio is full of voodoo and specifications make it more confusing not less.

I had a pair of these and they are gorgeous, very good build quality. Paid £300 too. However preferred the sennheiser 650's in the end. Voted hot for the price tho!

What you want to have is an even response across the range. Most headphones sound crappy because they boost heavily the bass and high end to make things sound powerful and punchy but actually just make everything sound boomy and tinny.

And yes, most people can only hear around 20hz-20khz but there are people that have a larger range, though for most it's smaller, especially as you age.

Is there anywhere you can listen & compare headphones. I'm fed up of taking a chance & not being happy with the results.

£172.36 here - http://www.thomann.de/gb/akg_k701.htm and that's standard price, 3 years warranty and from the biggest pro-audio shop in Europe

How much?! People spend this much on headphones?

People spend £1000s on speakers, which is all these are, if not better. So in the scheme of hifi, headphones are a bargain.

Try these instead of the AKGs. http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/ces200211.htm

The impedance on these is quite high, 62ohms I think. So don't think you'll be able to plug these in to your iPod and blow yourself away with a high volume. Ideally you need a decent headphone amp to drive these to their full potential, but obviously it's not essential they will just be quiet. However, I'm guessing anyone looking at buying headphones in this price range will know that.

Got a couple of AKG mics, but wouldn't buy the cans. Im a bit of a BD fan :p

    Still great price, so hot.
