What subtitles does it have? The DVD had subtitles for the hard of hearing, word for word the English version. The old video had a great translation with more depth to it.

really should dig this out on DVD again and watch

the only anime film i've actually enjoyed , wonderful soundtrack too :)

One of the greatest works of art ever (even if story is odd)

The English (American) dub is pap compared to the original with subtitles. You get a better feel for the characters when they speak in there native tongue. The dub trys too hard to lip sync and alot of dialogue is shortened and stupified!

I watched this on the big cinema screen at Glastonbury in 1992. It was pretty amazing :D

Depends on the dub, the newer one was ****.

does anyone know wwhich dub this is? It will no doubt feature Japanese and English versions, but I'd much prefer the Dogtanian dub than the Pioneer dub.

i think he means ''its an almost 20 year old cartoon, how can that be HD?''

so he clearly doesnt know about how most films are filmed in a much better way than you can imagine. ive seen transformers the movie on bluray and it is an improvment over the dvd version.

anyway already on my radar this, being a steelbook and all. will grab it on preorder soon.

yeah same here - i mean i never understand why people will put up preorder blurays as a hot deal, when in most cases they drop a few quid inside a month. it might be the best price for it, but its hardly a hot deal at £18 for a bluray.

I've got 2 VHS cassettes [one of them still sealed] somewhere....must have a go at trying to shift them again..

Clearly you have no understanding of how film works, or what can be achieved with bluray.

I last had this on VHS and haven't got around to buying it on DVD yet either, so I am tempted.

i agree, of all the one's i've seen this is the only one I really didn't like (I've even watched it a few times)

Think that's the way it is, you'll either love it or hate it.

Still I find the anime is really good, though the storyline and characters are a little strange/not convincing imo. =]

This is the first Anime that I bought and the animation blew me away but I was hugely disappointed with the incoherent story and character betrayal. Apparently, it was like this because the original comics/graphic novels were huge and complex and they tried to cram it all into a vhs movie. That's why nothing made sense! Heat given BTW.

The new dub is 10x that of the original.

The original with Cam Clarke is poorly done, and as someone has mentioned, reminds them of Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.

Of course, the original with subs is the best way to go.

Each to their own, but the original voice for me is Akira.
