The year is 2019, 30 years after Tokyo was destroyed by a secret weapons project during World War III. Neo-Tokyo has now risen from the ashes to become dark and dangerous megalopolis infested with gangs and terrorists. The government is full of corruption and only maintains token control over the powerful military that prevents total chaos and hides the secrets of the past. Childhood friends Tetsuo and Keneda plunge into Neo-Tokyo's darkest secret when their motorcyle gang encounters a military operation to retrieve an escaped experimental subject. Tetsuo, captured by the military is subjected to experiments that make him a powerful psychic, but, unfortunately for Neo-Tokyo, Tetsuo's powers rage out of control and he lashes out at the world that has oppressed him! Nothing can stop the destructive forces that Tetsuo wields except possibly that last boy to destroy Tokyo - Akira! Prepare to enter this astonishing nightmare to hyper-reality created by one of the world's leading animation directors, Otomo Katsuhiro.

You do realise manga is reading material and Anime is cartoons.

Akira was the catalyst for my love of all things Japanese.

love this film ( except dubbed version)

This is good, the original disc has the original dubbing and 4:3 aspect.

The shiny new remastered widescreen Dolby 5.1 disc has all new voiceovers and it's been sped up slightly for a shorter running time and smoother animation.

Comes with a documentary, promo stuff etc.

The new 5.1 dub is English, new voice actors and script. Of course, you still have the Japanese option.
