I only bought this 2 days ago for £10, this seems a great price from amazon, especially for a Hardback

Alan Sugar was born in 1947 and brought up on a council estate in Clapton, in Hackney. As a kid he watched his dad struggle to support the family, never knowning from one week to the next if he'd have a job. It had a huge impact on him, fuelling a drive to succeed that was to earn him a sizeable personal fortune. Now he describes his amazing journey, from schoolboy enterprises like making and selling his own ginger beer to setting up his own company at nineteen; from Amstrad's groundbreaking ventures in hi-fi and computers, which made him the darling of the stock exchange, to the dark days when he nearly lost it all; from his pioneering deal with Rupert Murdoch to his boardroom battles at Tottenham Hotspur FC. He takes us into the world of The Apprentice, and describes his appointment as advisor to the government and elevation to the peerage. Like the man himself, this autobiography is forthright, funny and sometimes controversial.

"What you see is what you get".. If you've seen him on tv, you've already read the book so to be brutally honest not a very good read.

Another nail in the coffin of democracy. Merry Christmas.

He's a money grabbing businessman with a failing business - hence the need for 10 series of apprentice to boost his earnings.

Why would I or anyone else with half a brain want to read his book?

Regardless of your personal opinion of him, you can't deny that he's hugely successful.

Also pretty generous... he and Piers Morgan had a small competition going - whoever got the most twitter followers by christmas would send Great Ormond Street Childrens Hospital £5k. Pretty funny to follow on Twitter - Piers lost but Lord Sugar is going to send them £50k anyway. If he was short of cash, don't really think he could afford to donate that kind of money :)

I managed to get this for a fiver from WHSmith using one of their vouchers :)

I'm sorry Alan but even at £5.99 I consider this to be too risky a purchase.......... it is therefore with regret that I say............ Alan, you're fired!

I'm confused by your posts as they contradict each other, so which is it then? have you actually read the book? if not, then how can you comment on it?

if you simply don't like the bloke (for whatever reason), then why even post on the deal? are you really that lonely on Christmas Day? oO

sounds like simple jealousy to me .....

I should vote this Cold simply because its Alan Sugar, a man who grinds as much money as possible out of people like us, lol.

But I won't because the OP found a good deal and it would be unfair :)

Well according to the advert he has on ASDA radio (which I've heard at least a million times now... drives me insane with his smug, arrogant voice!) you may think you know him from the tv, but there have been surprises on the way.

He's living off past success - what does he do now? Amstrad's gone down the pan and his other businesses aren't exactly household names. I agree, you can't deny he used to be successful - and still is to a degree, but I find him hugely smug and arrogant. He's not a proper businessman anymore, he's a "celebrity".

Amstrad? Amstrad is a flop and Amstrad had been taken over by BskyB in 2007 agree with callum9999, his a celebrity just see the apprentice as his own show to make income similar with other celebs and their reality shows

Let me get this right...you are saying the book is crap without having read it?

I have read one chapter so far (christmas day sort of distracted me!), and it was a very good read.

Oh, and I got this for £8.80 from the same company a few days ago.

Thanks - was hoping to pick this up after Christmas

As far as "living off past success", at least he has done enough to write a book about rather than some of the younger celebrities who bring out "autobiographies" as soon as they reach 25

I wouldn't vote hot even if it was free!!

This book will be well ranked in public libraries.

you lot are fools for judging a man based on a TV performance and what the biased, propoganda fuelled media portray about him.
#25
Is this a good deal?

Many on here judge a good deal by the fact that a item has been reduced from its original price however over inflated. It's a ten-a-penny biography, so at £6 I would say not a bargain as these type of books usually end up in bargain bookshops for a couple of quid within weeks.

Is the man interesting? He's made lots of money based on humble beginnings, but like many similar people, was lucky to be in the right place at the right time, and made much of his money from crap stereos and crap computers, so not really exceptional there.

Will the book be interesting? Who knows. Most autobiographies are self indulgent diaries written by people who are not writers, but having not seen it I can't really comment, so I'll sit on the fence.

So on the balance of probability and by the fact that when most people buy a biography, they do so blindly (why would you buy it if you've already read it?), I would say not a good deal so voting cold.

Amstrad? Is the print so blurry that it gives you eye strain, the paper so thin its almost transparent, and all the pages fall out before you get halfway through the book? ;)

Apart from his inglorious period at Spurs his main claim to fame The Apprentice lost any cred for me years ago when a guy called Paul was fired on the basis of being judged badly in interview by Sugar's mates - despite the fact he'd never been on the losing team the whole series (hence 'back in the boardroom' to even speak to Sugar).

On the other hand... back in the 80's his company Amstrad introduced a amazingly usable and just about affordable desktop PC with word processing software (and including a reasonable printer) that liberated a generation of small-time, hard-up writers. That was genius.

This guy has done loads before the TV program, Sure it will be a great read.. At GOOD PRICE.(_;)

met a man who said he knew him in the 60s when he sold aerials out of a van - he said (allegedly) he didn’t care if they worked or not - as long as he sold them.

You need to go back to primary school maths because your sums don't add up.

LOL!!!!! Missed this article! Epic. Thanks :)

There's always a mixed opinion about AS, but this is a great read! If you don't like the man, don't read it! He isn't failing in any way and still ranks high on the rich list, he doesn't need to work ever again, he enjoys it.

His public image is bad, but if you believe what you read in the papers, you have a lot more to worry about!

Noticed Sugar tweeted about this deal with a hotukdeals referral link :) Hee hee, hopefully has earned a few quid for the site

Got this for christmas day yesterday. Only had time to read the first chapter so far but i am finding it really interesting so far. Not really getting the comments on here by people who haven't read it.

Because you might learn something if you read it, dick! Such as how to make some money.
I don't suppose your attitude could be anything to do with the fact that he's worth £700m+ more than you are could it?
