Description:
Alan Turing was the mathematician whose cipher-cracking transformed the Second World War. Taken on by British Intelligence in 1938, as a shy young Cambridge don, he combined brilliant logic with a flair for engineering.

In 1940 his machines were breaking the Enigma-enciphered messages of Nazi Germany’s air force. He then headed the penetration of the super-secure U-boat communications. But his vision went far beyond this achievement. Before the war he had invented the concept of the universal machine, and in 1945 he turned this into the first design for a digital computer.

Turing's far-sighted plans for the digital era forged ahead into a vision for Artificial Intelligence. However, in 1952 his homosexuality rendered him a criminal and he was subjected to humiliating treatment. In 1954, aged 41, Alan Turing took his own life.

I can't see how this can ever have been worth £25 or more.
However, it is almost 8 hours long

Ehm apparently it is a staggering 28 hours 48 minutes long oO

Thought that seemed an incredibly long time so just double-checked how long it is on audible and they have it listed as 30 hours 44 minutes...still on the plus side I suspect it would be a great cure for insomnia as doubt I could stay awake long enough to listen to it as unfortunately I have a tendency to "tune" out regardless of how hard I try to listen to audiobooks and I eventually just get lulled to sleep...think it may be partly due to the fact that I'm deaf and really have to concentrate when listening to such things so it becomes more of a chore than an enjoyment ;)

Yes sorry it is 4*7.5 (about) and rather boring. The speaker doesn't put much intonation into his reading, ps you must be only partly deaf!

Oh lord the audio book sounds more like an endurance test and I'm not too sure now whether my Mum is going to thank me for it....lol...oh and yes sorry meant to say profoundly deaf...not completely deaf...think part of the problem I have when attempting to listen to audio books is I rely on lip-reading and hearing aids in everyday conversation and subtitles when watching TV so really struggle with audio books and it also depends on the accent and pitch of the person's voice as to how easily I can pick up what they're saying...mind you think you solved that one when you said the reader doesn't put much intonation in!!!

They have quite a few of Terry Pratchett's Discworld, audio books under the 2-4-£8 offer.

It sounds like you'd be better off with a book! You might try ebay, or even Amazon, second hand books are always a good buy, IMO. If you are interested in the subject, it's well worth visiting Bletchley Park, it should be quite quiet at this time of year. A book I can recommend is "GCHQ The Secret Wireless War 1900- 86" by Nigel West. There was a lot more to our war with the Germans than simply solving the Enigma coding. It's quite technical and long 380 odd pages!
