Wouldn't be too bothered about it being an Alba -- no worse than any other budget brand, and at least it's backed up by a big concern.

Seems good enough to me, won't be buying but heat added.

fair enough, but alba.....sheesh, still good deal though, end of the day it will probably be some generic TV then rebranded alba.

seems false economy for an extra £100 you get a branded one with 5 year warranty in John Lewis obviously using a pricematch from the likes of richersounds

Don't quote me on this but i suspect ir it is a 40" panel as opposed to a 42" panel it can only be one from the Sony/Samsung joint venture as no one else manufactured that size! So could be a decent TV if the Alba components are good?

well i got a 40" Sony KDLV5500 for £499 from john lewis by trading in an old broken 14" portable just now sony are offering £100 off tv's if you trade in one.

The KDL5500V is on £949 in John lewis but they price matched richersounds to £599 then gave me the extra £100 off

the KDL 5500S can be had for £399 i believe using the same method as above! both deals are on hotdeals

It's a good price but would prefer to spend about £30 more on a 42 lg hd plasma instead

Argos are also doing a 42" Hitachi LCD for £389.99 which sounds like a slightly better deal (£197 off):

...if you can find the stock - none around my way unfortunately (Canterbury)....

Not knocking the brand but when I was in Argos last week getting a stand for new Toshiba LCD TV, there was a lady returning one of these Alba one's to get a replacement. She didn't return it in the box so probably had it for a bit and was faulty. One off maybe (?)

am tempted to get one but does anybody know wat they r like ?

Alba was bought by Argos last year. And Alba as a company was making losses, so sold the NAME alba to Argos, but the alba company still trades just in a different name!. All confusing :P

I got a Alba pvr, it's good. But it was only £100. I'd want a branded name for £379. Everything has a years guarantee on it anyway, but with it been near xmas :x lots of tvs and things will be coming down in price
