  Sorry OP but don't even go there... these things are awful! I bought one from the last deal £7.99 the box was sealed but the screen was badly scratched and the battery covers falls off when you touch it. I've emailed Argos / Ebay twice about it with no response... Joke

  I echo what zermattbusby said. I bought the black one recently for £14 and the screen was scratched to hell. At least Argos have replied to my message and provided a label to return it for free at any Collect+ shop.

  I got the £7.99 one, too. The screen on mine is fine but the battery cover does have a tendency to fall off :(
  The instructions aren't brilliant either but the basic functions work - though the menu / buttons is fiddly

  Can you partial erase like a tape recorder (i.e. rewind a little and then start recording from where to rewound to) or does it need to write a new file each time and you have to erase or keep the previous incorrect file.

  It writes a new file each time , the unit doesn't work like the mini tape recorder it is trying to replace. I found them quite good . I bought a few years ago , not the scratched screen ones though . Very easy to use and playback , they come with accessories too , like headphones , microphone and USB cable.
