The Alcatel OT S319 in flamingo pink is a cheap, cheerful clamshell phone available in a variety of colours. The 1.8-inch display with up to 65,000-colour makes no claim to technical brilliance, for example, but it is a happy little device – (H)90, (W)44, (D)18 cm and only 90g in the palm - with a wide array of unpretentious functions.
It supports WAP 2.0 for Web browsing via GPRS, and messaging options include SMS and MMS. It is a dual-band phone, so great for roaming in the UK and much of Europe. It can store details of up to 300 contacts and supports MP3 ringtones –so the world is your clamshell, on that score.
Buy it and take it on holiday – if it gets lost or stolen, it will not be the end of the world, while offering a stylish little fashion accessory.
Other features include a vibration alert instead of the ringtone, currency converter, calculator and a loudspeaker for handsfree operation. The internal memory at 0.5 Mbytes is tiny, but so are the demands on it.
Battery life is healthy – up to seven hours’ of talk time and 400 hours standby on full charge.
Standby battery time: 2 weeks, 2 days and 16 hours
