This might be of use to some light users. ID mobile are currently offering the 4G ready Alcatel Pixi 4 5 Inch edition for £6 per month on a 2 year contract. £144.

Possible £21 Top Cash Back also available. Taking the total to £123 or £5.13 per month.

This is the cheapest handset and contract that I have found for a half decent 4G phone running Marshmallow .

250MB data

Got one from Argos, £29.99 on Virgin (plus £10 top up unless you use FastTrack), normally £39.99. It's actually pretty good, trying it out before giving to my Dad for Christmas. I've updated to latest firmware and installed a few apps and have 4GB free, which is typical for an 8GB phone. It would definitely support a lot of apps, not just a couple. Perhaps it was a different Pixi with 4GB memory.

I wouldn't buy this on a contract personally, but it's really not that bad as a basic phone.

Edited to add - the version I got is the 3G one.
