are these computers reliable?

want something simple for the home... been searching foir an i- processor computer with a 17" screen for a while.
if someone could get back to me - that would be superb
#5
how can you find your nearest aldi store that has these deals?

I had a Medion.

After 4 months harddrive failed. (not their fault)
Took 3 weeks for them to pick it up (wouldnt send me out the part for me to fix)
Took 4 weeks to send me it back.

They stole my wifi card and replaced it with a cheap unbranded generic thing with half the range of the first one that came with it.

Many hours of phone calls later they agreeed to collect my laptop to return my laptop back to the spec I bought it as.
3 weeks later they pick it up.
4 weeks later they send it back with a smashed keyboard.

hours of phone calls later they agree to pick it up
3 weeks later they pick it up
4 weeeks later they send it back still with a smashed up keyboard.

Had to bring it back to the shop (toys r us!) right at the end of 12 months took a day of bitching to get my money back. Worst laptop + worst company to deal with on the planet.

I need to say something in Medion's defence here. Last year I bought a P6620 laptop from my local Aldi for £399.99. It has been a fantastic machine!

Hi – I have posted the link to the original prices as I cannot find anything about the reduced prices online.

There was printed literature in the store advertising the discounts, of which I have a copy, but no scanner.

The printed literature suggests it is nationwide – as long as your store has stock.
I got the 17” I3 500gb @399

Thanks for that - can you say what store you went to and whether there was any more stock?

It was Meanwood in Leeds. Not sure about other stock as they are all in the back.
#12
Oh yeah and if there is a better deal for a 17” on the go – don’t mind paying a little more for a better specced model, please post it up because I would be interested.

That's my experience with Medion too. I waited 6 months for my computer to be fixed (because I has send it off, I couldn't ask for my money back at Aldi). As soon as it was returned I brought it back to the shop and got my money back. Aldi is good with refunds.
My advice is that if you have problems with Medion and you bought at Aldi, don't bother with Medion CS, just return the itm to Aldi for a refund.

I brought a laptop from aldi akoya, the laptop overheated when playing games, later reports indicated there was a batch of bad nvidia graphics chips, the chap on the helpline did not want to know and said it was the 'type' of games I was playing causing the over heating. Was close to resorting to legal action to get a replacement.

I got a medion reburb 18 months ago for £250 and its been fantastic really but tonite ive found the screens got this transparent thick white line overlayed on the left side and the internal screens only been used maybe 15 hours :(

Sounds like a quality company to deal with! Well worth avoiding then.

Went into my local Aldi (Solihull) today (Friday) at 3pm and they still had all three of these laptops (a 15" model and two different 17" models).

The also had an AMD desktop at £399

Plenty of stock of all of these.

They are also getting in an Intel E5700 desktop on Sunday at £379.

aaaaahhhh

im confused... this generally seems like a decent buy for the home. It will be basically used by a woman to check her emails, and kids to do their homework/play some web games etc.

Will it Really fall apart so soon?
#23
These are not laptops they are netbooks:/

??????

They are laptops/notebooks.

Have you ever heard of a 17" netbook?

Well been into my store in Port Talbot today and they told me they sold out more or less straight away and that there is no more stock in ANY Aldi :( not impressed. Tried to call their customer services to check if indeed all stores are sold out but I was put on hold with their "You are in a Que your call is important to us"! message for over 20 mins tried again an hr later and had the same thing, hung up in the end can't afford to do that on an 0844 no.

Anyone suggest similar deals with 17" screen?

Cheers

using one now... (17.3")
so far seems very smooth and quiet the reliable machine.

Managed to buy the Medion MD 98410 17inch laptop for £399.99 from Blackpool store just before they were advertised. Really pleased with the sound quality & HD quality viewing. Very good value for the spec which would cost a lot more from the usual manufacturers.
