Looks very interesting. Seems that Aldi are finally offering something tempting again - quite a standard overall system but the integrated HDDVD and bluray are pretty appetising :)

Wow blu ray and hd-dvd playback - best of both worlds eh
#3
am i right in thinking that each store only gets like 1 or 2 of these each?

I'm tempted but is there really any chance of getting one unless i queue up the night before??!?!?!?
#4

Voted Warm, the Blu-Ray and HD is good but ultimatly its not a games machine. For the money I can build better. Depends what you want from a £650 computer. I like games :-D

Edit, I just read the specs again and its really not very good. If it came with a monitor then yes but as it is, Hard drive not great with only 8mb Cache, video card poor (not real gaming by any means), Processor been around a while and god knows what the Mother Board is(main important bit, never much information when a poor board is used)( AVOID DELL for this reason). Not taking anything away from the O/P as on the face a good deal but I think for the money a much better PC can be obtained.

Take these with a pinch of salt, they're good, when they work. The warrantee is worth as much as a handful of sand. Took them 11 months to get my PC back in a working condition (November 06 - October 07), Engineers don't turn up, or they collect it when you get it back its more broken than when you gave them it. etc.

rubbish medion customer service is far better then you get with the so called "big" brands(and i speak from experience)

Not everyone wants a games machine the 2 hidef drives makes it pretty good, I had a Medion for 3 years and the customer service was always excellent far better than from PC World etc.

Hi,

Agreed with the poster who's said that 8Mb Cache on the hard disk drive is poor for a machine costing this sort of money. 16Mb Cache hard disk drives don't cost that much more to source at retail never mind in bulk which the manufacturers buy in.

Think that these machines are over-priced compared to Dell who would without a doubt throw in a 19" TFT Monitor for a similarly spec'd machine costing approximately the same (possibly cheaper). Not everyone likes Dell admittedly however.

Medion uses MSI Motherboards, but their service is still worth nothing.

Just because you had bad service means nowt,

WOW! Can you please point me in the direction of a similarly specced machine from Dell including Blu-Ray, HD-DVD and monitor for under £650?

well i'm not into pre-built stuff, but a hd-dvd drive can be got for about 80ukp (or 95ukp for xbox360) bluray is more.

a 19" lcd is 100ukp these days, dunno how much vista is, i expect over 100ukp, not that anyone would want that rubbish, but i guess xp is 50+, you'd have maximum 350ukp for the pc components.

if you don't have a hdcp-compliant monitor/tv then you're going to need to buy a copy of anydvdhd (40ukp) to be ALLOWED to play back your own movies thanks to the mpaa, sony, fox etc.

its not clear if this bundle includes a copy of powerdvd to play back the movies, don't think media player can do it, thats more money.

p.s. 16mb cache is not all-important performance-wise, but does pretty much guarantee that you're getting a decent wd/seagate drive, 8mb = maxtor!

Hi, Not sure what the 'WOW!' is meant to mean and, granted, a price comparison has not been done in this instance however on many previous system builds on offer equivalent specification Dell machines with a 19" TFT Monitor have worked out cheaper. These machines generally ship with a Seagate hard disk drive that is noisy whilst in operation (do have experience of this). For some this is a good buy for others including myself this is not a good buy. Would rather put together a similar specification machine using the exact components that are required however for those who are neither interested in buying a Dell or building a machine themselves this is probably a good buy.

Regards.

I agree with badass, the Medion Warranty is worthless, and ends up being more trouble than the PC is worth. I, and others, have all experience the missed Engineer visits, untrained engineers breaking more than they fix, and hanging on for months to get them to do anything.

Most decent cards out atm will "play" Crysis, but you need some cash for turning the effects up high. You wont be able to do that with this card.

but me and others have had nothing but AAA+ service from them

If your willing to take the chance, then good luck.
You need it.
But the service people get is so unreliable, i dont think its fair to praise them when they are equally as likely to treat you like ****, and ignore you for weeks or months.

Also, recently they have cut Engineer visits, and it looks like it is only a "Pick up and repair" service now.
#21
but you think its ok to knock them?

i dont need a pc at the mo but if i did i would be there 7am cash in hand!

any way last post on this i have had a few medion products and found them great odd times i have had to call them the service are been the same

like they say you pays your money you makes your choice!
#22
I have had nothing but excellent service as well, just think that every company has toss pots. So the three year deal is a defo:thumbsup:
#23
The Service I received when my DVD Drive broke was fantastic, the guy replaced the drive for a superior drive in my house, always been very helpful over the telephone too. Thumbs up from me!
#24
Bloody good deal if you're not one of those people that like building your own PCs.
#25
Only ever had to use Medion once for a knackered motherboard, they came at the arranged time, swapped the motherboard over promptly and the system has worked fine since.

Take it from the horses mouth.

I was that disgusted in the way they handled customers and the way the replacement part where packed and transported.

Medion repair service is the worst I have ever worked for.

and for every good one that was installed two would fail and an enginner would have to come back.

Well, clearly they made a good choice with that one golden motherboard as it still works great....

I bought a Medion PC from Aldi 5 years ago, not had a single problem with it, works as well today as it did the day I bought it.
#31
Well I speak from experience, this is my 3rd medion pc I have bought from Aldi's, I have never had any problems with the other two, ok maybe I have been lucky, I bought this one, due to the blu-ray, we were 5th in the queue on Sunday and they had about 30 machines, they order them if they run out for you and are generally available within the week.

I cannot see me buying my pc's from anywhere else.
