Why do some idiots not realise when things are sold at a cheap price like this, that the store will not be making a profit, may even be making a loss. It's not that producers are not being paid much, or in the case of the cheap school uniforms that children in sweat shops abroad must be making for next to nothing.
These goods are sold cheaply to encourage people to go to the store and then they are likely to buy other goods.

'Stinky' broccoli? :D I always though such depth of feeling was reserved for Brussels sprouts. :p

Haha! There's barely the room for us 8! Plus 5 of those are kids so I doubt you'd want to be in the room once the sugar hits them. :P

What they're supposed to be so don't worry. Aldi and Lidl were one of the first signers of the NUF's fruit and veg pledge which basically promotes sustainability and decent prices for farmers. Being German companies, it wouldn't have surprised me if the were some of the last of the big supermarkets. :D

This and most cheap prices are loss leaders to increase footfall. It's practically impossible for a company to transport 2kg of potatoes all over the country and still make a profit on 19p a bag.
