£7.99 for a pheasant is very expensive. They are usually around £5-6 a brace in the butchers around here.

I see what you did there :P

Tempted by the goose and perhaps the four bird roast, any good?
#9
i'm disappointed about the 4 bird roast, there's more stuffing then meat, definitively not worth the money, i'd rather buy 2 kg of meat for that price next time. I expected more from that.
#10
Eugh, I wouldn't feed their meat to my dog let alone have it on my own plate! They're good for bargains but not when it comes to meat.

I'll be sticking with a major supermarket or butcher for my christmas dinner!

I've seen quite a few stuffed peasants walking around Aldi, but not that many stuffed pheasants.

Not sure many peasants would know how to eat a pheasant but i'm sure many know how to get a goose and they'd like to get a duck, but not many would like the idea of eating one.

being a butcher in training, its a shame to see people eat this stuff, support your local butcher, as most have much better meat and at reasonable prices, please dont let this stuff ruin your christmas
#21
I guess it proves some people will eat any old crap if it's cheap enought.

Disagree. Aldi have been selling British beef which has been hung for 21 days, cooked in my Rayburn, deliciously tender, - no bone no gristle.

If you can find me a local butcher that will sell me a crown for a tenner then i will buy it from there. Not been a chef and having an oven over 15 years old, to be honest the majority of stuff i cook any way tastes rank.

Haha, well everyone to their own I guess, but it would be impossible to sell something like a crown for a tenner with the prices it costs to buy in, not for everyone I know, but you did make me laugh at your cooking remark :)

Someone becoming a butcher wants people to use butchers more...

When loads of people keep coming in our shop and saying our joints and stuff are in another world to the supermarkets and there going to stop buying meat at supermarkets must be some reason why. If you cant treat yourself at christmas when can you

Some people really don't have that option. Great for you if you do, but not everyone can afford to have what they want just because it's Christmas.

Ha ha, probably !

Beef or lamb and free range chicken for me for the period anyway, do not really care for greasy stuff like duck or goose. Lidl selling some frankly weird stuff which I would not buy no matter the price, quails, moose joints, hare legs, yuck.

My butcher advertises the fact that he has sex with each bird before selling them. I find it revolting and don't think they taste that much better. Thinking about shopping at a supermarket for my meat now.

Nothing wrong with Aldi Turkey Crown, got one last year. Was as good as you could get from anywhere else (unless you are buying free ränge or organic which are prohibitively expensive)

I have had a stuffed aldi turkey crown for the last 2 years, lovely and moist. Look forward to getting one this year, sure it is more expensive than these though. As for butchers, they need to look at why people buy from these stores rather than from them, they need to address the reasons why they loose customers to supermarkets and change in order to regain their lost customers

Went in local butcher year before last, aunt was asking for some advice on cooking, nothing special and was told madam I'm a butcher not a chef, needless to say he was told to shove his meat lol

Morrisons butchers always helpful and courteous. Having said that we do now use a different butchers this time of year
