Review by Jon Foster:
It’s hard to see just where the Alien Anthology Blu-ray boxset could have been improved. Nominally a collection of the four main films in the franchise, what’s actually been bundled together here is one of the finest DVD or Blu-ray boxsets to date, boasting a series of features that genuinely go into a lot of depth about the movies themselves.
And what movies they are. Alien and Aliens are both exceptional pieces of cinema, and rightly regarded as classics in their own right. Alien 3, meanwhile, has to be classed as an interesting and muddled failure, yet it’s still got a lot to like about it. Alien: Resurrection? It’s perhaps the least ambitious of the four films, but in the early stages at least, it’s still with merit.

Each of the films is presently strongly, surprising given the variable DVD versions of each we’ve seen to date. But it’s the mammoth package of extras that set a template for pretty much every other Blu-ray boxset on the market. Spread across six discs, you not only get two cuts of each film, but you get extra features that are as impressive as they comprehensive. Presented brilliantly, it’s an unmissable box set, and you get at least two all-time classics as part of it

6 x BD Discs:
• 4 film discs
• Two versions of each movie (Directors Cut or Special Edition & Theatrical Version) in High Definition, plus commentaries
• 2 discs of Bonus Material
• Over 60 hours of extra features, including every piece of bonus material ever released
• Including over 4 hours of NEVER BEFORE SEEN content
• New MU-TH-UR Mode, a fully interactive companion takes the extensive materials in the ALIEN ANTHOLOGY and puts them in the user’s hand – connecting fans to special features on all six discs and instantly providing an index of all available ALIEN content.

The first two are the only ones worth watching, and they've been on freeview once or twice in the last few months. Seems more than I'd pay for two good movies and two trainwrecks.

Case does look nice, though!

There is now a plastic amaray box version, as opposed to the fold-out digipak. You could get either if you order online.

Don't really want anything other than the Special edition 'Aliens' on Blu-Ray...

Actually went ot see it in the cinema few weeks ago on it's 25th anniversary. Man it was epic :D

Just a bit of a f00ker you can't but it individually! (sp?) :(

Got these from HMV online for 25 quid when they first came out, they were 50 in store...hmmm...
Hot!

The actual transfer quality on these is amazing, considering the age of the films, it looks better than some modern day bluray releases. Great set and a bargain price :)

3rd one his HIGHLY UNDERRATED especially the extended edition. Very bleak but to call it a 'train wreck' is obviously coming from someone who needs spoon feeding.. (It's Fincher after all). 4th one..yeh say no more.

Glad I bought the quality digipak. £20 plus for the cheapo Amaray with slipbox..he..he.

It's become 'fashionable' to reassess the third film recently, especially the director's cut since it's a Fincher film.

Doesn't stop it from being a terrible third film. In terms of the narrative setup of the first two film, it's a train wreck.

superb series and good price, but how do we know the extras are not already covered on the DVD Quadrilogy?

I've always enjoyed all the 4 movies. As far as 4th movies go (try and name another franchise that has got to #4 and remained same quality) Resurrection aint bad.

Resurrection is ionically the film that killed the franchise, and I like Jeunet's films.

But if you're comparing this to other franchises, it's much better than Superman IV, much worse than Rocky IV and a masterpiece in comparison to The Phantom Menace.

The picture really is fantastic, especially the first film. Also... LOVE the menu screens 8)

The sequel has always been one of my all time favourite films, but I actually think I now prefer the original. I've watched it three times since buying the set oO
I've also discovered that I don't like Cameron's choice of 16:9 aspect ratio for Aliens, it somehow cheapens the presentation.

It is the pride of my Blu-ray collection, glad I got the digipak though.

I thought I'd seen it instore at a good price. They had one copy in Bristol (Clifton Downs).

if its the same versions as the dvd box set - the alternate version of the third film is great

Agree on the third. I find the 2nd the most dated. For a film set in the future its got the 80s written all over it. Great menus and packaging, especially the jerry version.

heat added, bought a copy too - now I just need a bluray player!

Get a grip! The sentry guns and Hudson showing off are two of the films best scenes!

I had this set, watched the first 3 only and had to sell it

The packaging is cool and looks really good, menus really cool and it looks really good visually.

As a set of films tho, cant believe how good and tense alien and aliens is but who crap the third is
Nearly had to turn it off, so dissapointing. Film has no scares no jumps in a space prison or whatever.
Cant believe they released it as a set, heard resurection was pants so didnt bother

Anyway thats my two cents, anyone enjoy 3 or 4 feel free to debate
Hot price tho

Sadly it's been confirmed there's no prequel in the making!thought 1&2 were superb,3 was ok but 4 was terrible!was hoping the prequel would go ahead to explain were the aliens came from but Ridley Scott has used his idea for another movie!!so yeah I'm like all the rest and wish I could have bought 1&2 together, will keep for packaging though!!

Ridley Scott' Alien and Aliens are classics. I saw Alien in local cinema when it was re-released a few years back and would love to see Aliens on the big screen too...

Alien 3 wasn't on par with those but was still a solid sci-fi horror imho. I didn't enjoy Resurrection much tho I have to admit.

I really enjoyed alien3 when it first came out and in my mind just assumed it was a sucess only to find there was a bit of a backlash against it, pt 4 is terrible though.
