Another Xbox One game that CEX seem to be giving away this Christmas. Seems like there's lots of stock everywhere and 744 available online so few people will struggle to find a copy.

Alien: Isolation

In space, no-one can hear you scream... As trite and clichéd as that sentence is, it does much to capture the spirit of Alien: Isolation, a game that is designed from the ground up to scare the player out of their wits.
Set 15 years after the events depicted in the film Alien, Alien: Isolation places the player in the role of Amanda Ripley, Ellen Ripley's daughter; Ellen being the lead character in the Alien franchise.

Amanda is searching for the flight recorder of the Nostromo, the ship that her mother was on before she destroyed it at the end of Alien. As part of her search she has been working from space station Sevastopol, which as the game begins becomes infested by a xenomorph.

Amanda is not a gun-toting marine, so is not armed with the now-familiar M41a pulse rifle but instead has in her arsenal a motion tracker, flash light and her wits. There is only one alien in Alien: Isolation and Amanda has no means to attack it directly. The only means of defence she has against the being is either to hide from it or do her utmost to evade it by moving stealthily.

Been playing this over the last few weeks. An absolute masterpiece and the scariest game I have ever played. There is something about being hunted and absolutely helpless that just works so well in a videogame. I dare anyone to play this at night with the lights off and headphones on.

Im on the opposite spectrum of the Marmite scale.

Hated it. The retro 8-bit dot matrix style font made my eyes go funny if playing longer than an hour - and just found it too boring.

Good for atmospheric'ness - but for a game, which I tend to play for entertainment - its a hard pass.

You probably have already, but give Outlast a go if you enjoy this so much. Not as good, but that same feeling.

They did that on purpose to try to recreate the feeling of the original film as much as possible. I can see why it might get on some people's nerves though.

Similarly, the cut scenes were recorded on VHS and then they screwed around with the tracking and heads etc. There's a developer presentation on YouTube from this year's EGX Rezzed that's worth a watch if you're interested and ever have a spare half an hour.

sold mine last week only had it a week my own fault I've not got the patience for this type of game, also I couldn't get my head around the fact that it's set 300 + years in the future but they are using reel to reel tapes ?!

Yeah, that one always gets me when I watch old episodes of Red Dwarf. I saw the latest Hunger Games movie last week and I couldn't help but think that the TV's in it will look like crap in 10 years from now.

At first I was like you but I kept going and it's a brilliant game. Dark, creepy and atmospheric. I loved the old school feel of the game too - can't see why people are moaning

I guess if you are just looking to run around like an idiot shooting at things then this game isn't for you.

Fair enough, however I did say that only the amazon deal was better priced on PS4. Perhaps only the xbone deal should've been posted

It was good that you added your bit on for the PS4 version, but you had no right to have a go at the OP for posting this deal.
