Hot for me!!

Cue all the comments about obsolete technology...... blah blah blah......
#2
Hot but no doubt will heavily differ from store to store.
#3
Does the one in Bristol have any in stock? I live a bit of the way out, so would'nt want to make the trip for nothing.

Voted hot though.
#4
I quered this last time someone said and they said there was no change on price.
#5
Just checked in the Livingston store - still priced from £2.99 upwards.

+1 my store was £3.99 for them all last time someone posted this deal
#7
So this is voted hot although NO-ONE has confirmed it's true, confused....

Think I'll create a thread about them being 99p somewhere and see what happens!

Always happens. Usually just store specific. I have asked in Wrexham and Rhyl, and they only do the £35 for Drive and 5 HD's.

I was in Chesterfield branch and they had a few HD-DVD's in and a "5 for £10 or £3.99 each" offer on. Bought 5. Not many left now.
#13
They also had the 3 for £10 in Southend on Sea

Dead format comments are boring. They're relevant if you're talking about buying the hardware but if you have the equipment to play them and they're cheaper than DVD the fact that future releases aren't going to be made is totally irrelevant.

Don't think this is on in Edinburgh Princes St. they still had Stardust for 17.99 the other day when I checked but I might have a look later.

lol - HD DVD is the same quality as Blu Ray. Granted there are no new releases, but given it is even cheaper that Standard DVD's, these are a great deal.

anyways - in the US atleast, Blu Ray is dieing at a very rapid pace: High Def download is the Now technology. within the next year i expect to see deals for "Discounted" download vouchers / special offers etc.... :)

I'm sorry but that is just so pathetic and pedantic. I feel debased for even having taken the time to write this. Instead I should have stamped on a kitten.

This.

Sony was stupid as hell for not dropping their Blu-ray prices down. In this day and age its quicker to download something than to go to the shops or wait for the post. Sure the quality isn't TOP notch, but its definitely passible.

Blu-ray could become a enthusiast item, not something Sony has in mind.

Not gonna happen any time soon. Not in Europe at least. The US already has a massively available video download service with download rentals through PS3 and PC, whereas we have nothing in the UK. Sony Europe have yet to pull their finger out and actually provide PS3 owners with the same kind of Video rental download servive as US PS3 owners have and XBox 360 owners have.

Blu Rays are where its at, for at least the next few years in this country. For me it will always be Blu Rays and DVDs. I don't want a file on my PC, I want a physical disc on my shelf so I can browse instantly.

I PREFER A SCRATCH RESISTANT HARD DRIVE:thumbsup:

£1.99 at Sutton in Surrey branch.
Had about 40 left today. Most of the Harry Potters, a Bourne, Turtles, Ray, erm...
#29
Brilliant. Heat & Rep added
#30
Are these new and sealed or are they used?
#31
Dead format, blah blah blah, Where is the love?
Yes we know blu-ray is the current format.
No you cant play it on PS3.......(Although I might try it for a laugh)
Hot from me because I am able to play both and as many wise man has said before me if you have the choice between a film on blu ray (£16ish) and the same one on HDDVD (yes they dont make them anymore....*yawn*) for £1.99 you are obviously going to buy it on HDDVD if you can play both.

And I know i'll never stop the haters, but I dont want to, I would never want them to loose their only purpose in life!
#32
Oh and they're all pre owned in birmingham. but they all have disc cleaners if there are any light scratches.

The Broadmead branch had a good selection in there a week or so back.
#34
One of the store ops said they sell as pre-owned but most are still sealed, same goes for the HD drive. It's just the way they put it through the tills.
And as Konami said, anything I buy from there pre-owned I ask them to run through the resurfacing machine and they have always been happy to - comes out good as new.

I prefere a format that won't get deleted when my computer dies a horrible unexpected death. Plus you only scratch discs if you dont take care of them. And besides with downloads you never fully own them because theres all sorts of encoding that prevent them being played on other devices etc. Aaaaaand blu rays and dvds are far easier to play on different devices. I hwatch dvds in bed as well as in the living room. Without buying seperate media streaming devices to go in seperate rooms there isn't an easy way to share around these movies.

And the most important part of all, hard discs aren't scratch resistant. Theres no real contact, but if something went very wrong they can still get scratched. Very unlikely though.
#36
yeah - they are new - but none are sealed. When i went to pay they were pulling pre-packaged ones from the draw. I took all the Potters and Pans Labyrinth - all £1.99 of course.
Potters look great - but Pan's blew me away - I dont know why, but it looked terrific!!
Tempted by Fast and Furious too....

the 360 HDDVD Rom was instore at 24.99 new - they had a couple.

most HDDVDs have been pretty impressive quality - except Miami Vice - which was unbelievably grainy!!! - worse than a VHS - am I am not exagerating!!

re: Blu-Ray - the first home Blu Ray recorder is now available, so i suspect the format has longevity inspite of Download service in other countries...
#37
Thanks to the OP. I managed to get 6 films from the Bootle branch. I phoned the Liverpool store and they were still priced at £2.99 and £3.99, the guy said they'll probably get an email telling them the new prices today. I think I've bought about 10 red's and blu's in the last week!
#38
yep - went back in today and picked up Apollo 13. Daylight disc was missing so didnt get that and Turtles has been sold now (not really that fussed there tbh...).
Still loads left in Uxbridge branch...

Saw them for £1.99 in Stockport at lunchtime - not a huge selection left though.
