Same offer that was on until end of March. Been waiting for this to come back. It restarted on Friday 1/5/09 and ends on the 28th.

As always: basically if you transfer your account you get a £100 credit, provided you meet the not too difficult criteria. You must fund at least £500 per month to the account and you must use their transfer service to switch, and you must also have a direct debit to switch.

sounds like a great deal hot

£150 smackers for nothing? take it and close account after few months!
i feel too much hassel in transferring all direct debits!
still hot i wish i could do it . can't be bothered.. if you can go for it.
#3
If I wasn't already with A&L I'd switch. I've never had any probs with their services.
#4
Rubbish - I STILL have a cash card, nationwide won't give me a debit card even though I have a brilliant credit rating! Would have loved to have done this :(
#5
Well thats crap, I only got £50 for signing up!! (Great for new customers though).

I did however sign up when it was 8% AER so have got a lot of credit from them :)

there overdraft fines are good too, free matched overdraft for the first 12 months (mine is £1000) and then a maximum of £5.00 per month there after. Beats HSBC's virtually 20% rip off they do on any overdraft!!

Heat added.

Good offer, worth doing.

Shocking CS but you could probably say that about any bank!
#7
Im gonna give it go!!!
heat Added
Cheers!!!

I moved to A&L over 3 years ago from Smile and the banks been fine. The only weakness I find is that they don't have a 'contact - email' through online management, so you need to call them which can be annoying. However, you do get your statements online in different format to download and can be easily imported to XL or other app.

Im not sure about that, on all dealings with them there customer service has been very good. The only down point is the phone menu you have to get through to speak to an operator but they answered instantly and dealt with the problem very quickly (question about a recent input of money to my account which I did not recognise, phoned them yesterday at 6pm)

Well they've just given me £100 to say sorry for their rubbish CS. (not this deal, they've actually given £100 as an apology).

I have a bank account I only use to pay for Sky (i.e. my salary doesnt go in there). Could I use that account, and manually put the £500 in each month thus keeping my Barclays account for main use?
#12
I wonder if I can transfer an unused Barclay's Current account which I opened a year or so ago to get £100 ;o)
#13
I'm a jobless student, can I just manually place £500 in each month?
#14
I keep stalling on changing accounts. Maybe this will be the time I do get round to it.
#15
good deal

They do have secure message box after you've signed in. I've contacted them a few weeks ago and had a reply fairly quickly. I remember you had to click 'help' and find contact us.... and select via secure message, it is there, it's just not that easy to find at first..!! hope this helps. (unable to sign in to my account coz of where I am at the moment)
#17
Applied...fingers crossed.
#18
Does anybody know how long you have to keep paying £500 in to it for? And I can just do that as a bank transfer thingy?

obviously I don't know the details, but £100 for an apology doesn't sound bad from where im standing.

as long as you have the account open for.

and the student can manually put in £500 each month, as long as it goes in, even if it comes back out 3 days later!!
#21
Oh I have an Abbey account and it seems that means I can not apply. Bums.
#22
Have to say, as I am currently having an argument with them, their CS has been appalling from start to finish.

That said, I wouldnt let you put it off the deal, as usually most people dont need to contact their bank CS very often.

But BE WARNED - the issue I am having, and hence the argument, is that they dont keep their account number/sort code databases updated - hence cannot transfer any money into my ISA from the current account!!!

yes thats what I do, I just transfer or manually pay in £500 in to my A&L account every month. I received my £100 after 2 months but I'm still waiting for my cashabck from quidco 4 months on :x
#24
I have been with them for 15 years and NEVER had a problem apart from 1 direct debit incorrectly taken off my account and it was promptly returned to me account.

CS is all UK based too so another positive for me.
#25
Voted cold, this deal was on last august and I'm currently fighting with them through the complaints route for the £100 which they refuse to pay me. Apalling customer service, and deffo not worth the hassle.

Worst mistake I made last year was switching to A&L. 3 individual customer service agents told me the £100 would be paid in "shortly" and now I'm told I'm not entitled to the money as I didn't use the switching service, which I did request to use but they took 6 months to transfer my DD's so I did it manually. Even AFTER me switching these DD's manually, I checked to make sure it would be ok for the £100's Terms and Conditions and was advised yes. This is a bank that you cannot trust if you phone them or deal with them, so you're better off keeping your cash in a shoebox under the bed.

Lucky you!
#27
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't switching banks affect your credit rating? I have always resisted such offers ...
#28
It doesnt directly affect your credit rating, but I do believe that you are seen as slightly riskier for a short time after changing, purely on the basis that you have less "history".

I think this is only for a few months though, so unless you are planning on taking out credit in the next few months, I wouldnt worry.
#29
I think i will go for this,
#30
i took advantage of this 2 months back and rec'd my £100 no problem at all

the DD service is a bit slow mind so keep an eye on old account and make sure some money is there
#31
This sounds a good deal however I have been with my bank for nearly 20 years and never had any concerns with them so do not really want to leave.

When I complete the registration will Alliance and Leicester request my old bank account is closed down?
Could I just go through the registration process and transfer one DD and ensure £500 is transfered over for a few days each month without closing my existing bank account down?

Thanks
#32
i have done this and so has my brother ....... when ever i ring the CS i can understand them and always get my problem sorted asap ..... overdraft is £5 per day your over it .... (well mine is)... and if i ring up and nag a little they cancel the charge quickly.... i was moving house and needed a new card so they sent it special delivery free of charge ... i was well chuffed........ great CS

i switched to these as nationwide won't give out a debit card unless i make 25k a year and have a great credit rating :|

never had a problem, quidco takes a little longer to pay out but thats expected.....

i still have my nationwide account that i moved from ...... they ask you switch your direct debits etc to them to give you the £100 , they cannot ask you to cancel your other bank

they will send you a form asking you what direct debits you want moved to them..... put the ones you want done then send form back to them. as long as you pay £500 a month in you will get the £100

if you don't put £500 in then there is a charge of £5 a month for the account
#34
Sounds like a hot deal. Might have to have a go at this. To gain £150 for a little time and effort seems hot to me!
#35
I dont normally have £500 in one go to transfer over, would this still work if i transferred £250 x 2 per month?
banned#36
Just transferred from Halifax - initial email said they can't offer an overdraft, even though i've got £1500 from Halifax - hmmm i'll have to wait and see
#37
Im with HSBC currently. Do i have to switch? Can i not open a new Alliance & Leicester account and keep both?
#38
Someone asked the question earlier, but don't think it's been answered yet. How long do you have to keep the account? If I get the £100 after 2 months, can I just close it then? And what's this about a £10/month fee?
#39
Haven't had time to read through the thread...

...but do make sure you read their SMALL PRINT... it used to be the case that there must be at least ONE DIRECT DEBIT MANDATE on the a/c you transfer from so make sure there is - my mother almost fell fould of that as she had only STANDING ORDERS.

So do double check to avoid any disappointment.

great deal but their online banking is terrible, they only allow £250 per transaction for faster payments and you can only make one payment to an account per day very strange this one and they take a day longer than most banks for other trasfers. Go for the cash and close the account and then take the offer again in a few months time :)
