The "Inferno" version on the PS3 is different to the Xbox 360 version (probably the PC, PS2 & Wii editions too).

It took longer to develop & feedback from punters regarding glitches & bugs (in the Microsoft console version) were addressed in the PS3 release.

There is now full 360 degree camera control, a revised zoomed-out third-person view, a different (arguably, more user-friendly) inventory system, and the controls used during the driving elements of the game have been changed ("improved").

Unfortunately, nobody bought this version either... not helped by the fact that a Collector's Edition wasn't released at all for the PS3.

BFN,

fp.

EDIT: I see from the product item page on Play.com & it says about the same as I summarised but in more detail as "Special Features" for the title:
---
Full 360° Camera Control: Enhanced camera controls allows complete freedom of the camera and better handling of first-person view camera movement for even more immersive gameplay.
Fine-Tuned Controls: Quicker and smoother reactivity of the hero's movements in third-person view make for more rapid movements in nail-biting situations.
Inventory System More Accessible: More logical jacket inventory system with the ability to combine objects using only the D-pad, and more fluid hero movement makes item selection a breeze.
More Tips: Players will get all the help they need to get through every situation and get the most out of the game.
Spectral Vision Tuning: A tutorial explains the need to burn roots in order to gain spectral vision and difficulty tuning means less spectral vision is required to reach the end of the game.
Improved Car Dynamics and Handling: Car handling has been tuned to make driving a car a walk in the park in every situation, including increased suspension and reduced drift.
59th Street Level Tuning: One of the game's most exciting sequences just got better. 59th Street has been tweaked for a more satisfying race against the fissure with difficulty tuning, an added checkpoint at Columbus Circle and clear voice directions given by Sarah.
Brand New Thrilling Action Qequence: An exclusive new sequence has been added in Episode 6 for even more pace and variety of gameplay in the episode.
---

Not sure what a "Qequence" is though! :)

Got a very good rating of 7.5 and most players rated it 8 and above average 8.5 So quite a good improvement for the ps3.

Thanks. Hmmm... if I didn't have so much to play anyway, I would be tempted :)

Have you tried the Playable Demo that was available from the PlayStation Store at the start of November?

I tried it for a few minutes & have never found the time to go back to finish it. I did like the very first "Alone In The Dark" way back in 1992 (on the PC platform), but I've not played any between then & now.

I'd be interested in your thoughts if you either play the demo or buy the full commercial release.

Thanks again.

Got the PS3 version from game for £17.99 a little while back and i thought the game was really good, deffinitely rate it a 8+. Just it got a bad name for the 360 mainly to the controls. I heard it was borderline impossible to even walk around on the 360.

Also i heard the 360 one has been patched to match the PS3 version so at 9.99 may be a better buy but i can't confirm that as i only have it for the PS3. Pretty easy platinum on this one too

I bought it a long time ago on the 360. Great game with a good story and graphics. Shame the gameplay was flawed.
