It's good to get some feedback on the car hire companies, but I can only give information based on what I have seen on the booking pages and in the terms and conditions. For example, the one with Vehicle Rent I mentioned I've just read through all the terms and conditions and payment details and I can't see nothing which indicates you would have to pay more than what's on the payment screen. I believe this is with a company called OK Rental which is another one that appears to have terrible reviews, mainly due to the problems people have had with the insurance options etc. Screen shots below.

https://i.imgbox.com/FTcOqs5O.pnghttps://i.imgbox.com/5fzyZeW1.pnghttps://i.imgbox.com/7VfLIN6V.pnghttps://i.imgbox.com/LHZvTcGK.pnghttps://i.imgbox.com/8IdKcZao.png

I think it's important when renting from any insurance company to do your homework and make sure you know exactly what you are signing up for and make sure you know what the excess is and that you are covered whether it be with the car hire company, or thorough other options. I've taken to filming around the car when inspecting it with the car hire rep making sure any issues are raised and recorded before rental and also on the return to avoid any problems after an incident with Avis. May sound a bit extreme!

It's great that people have some good experience at using local companies and I have used a range of local companies myself including Airbnb to rent a motorhome abroad. The company someone mentioned called Poppy rental has availability at €235. Again, it's up to you which company you use and your budget and for anyone who books this I would encourage you to look at some of the suggestions from regular travellers to Menorca.

Happy travelling!

It's what you pay at the rental desk not what you pay on the booking screen, you must add a further £150 to the price you quote.
The quote I had for vehicle rent was paying £1 odd up front and then the remaining £22 odd in Menorca. That's what it said at the checkout page.
And you believed that?...............I dont think you haver EVER hired a car from one of these brokers/companies before or you would know better.........type the name of the actual car rental company into google and add the word scams, and then think twice before posting holiday bargains that include car hire.
Yep, I've used vehicle rent, argus car hire and holiday autos all before with no problems.... I've also used more popular ones like Avis, Europcar and Budget too.

Hi Rachel

I think everyone on here appreciates the work that goes in to finding a deal and taking the time to post it! What gets people a little confused is when deal does not quite add up or is confusing.

For example, a lot people know that GoldCar, OK Car, et-al rental firms are more or less scams, you never pay the amount shown. You get hit with super high additional charges etc for insurance and big excesses. When you post those "deals" like here, you wont ever get an easy ride b/c people are irate about scammers!

Likewise when you do a reply showing you can get another deal on a website, you went all the way to pay page and then don't post that it damages your legitimacy even further.

My honest opinion and advice would be to post "prepaid" car hire prices, the ones you pay NOW not the one you pay at the desk from legitimate car firms. They don't have to be Avis etc. As mentioned Poppy car hire is well known on the island, though often booked early.

I would be wary also, lots of people on here (are you guessing you I have been to Menorca a few times or more!?) often visit the same locations so they know some good info but if you post seeming to be the fountain of knowledge on said location you might receive cold votes of a bit of bashing in the comments.
also can you confirm what dates this is for?
seems a good deal but the title seems to imply car hire for the duration but is priced for a day. This has already been pointed out and is misleading.

Jesus wept, go easy,

firstly, the rental price is all the OP can go on. Whatever hidden costs come at the desk is out of ops control. So maybe there is fuel tank and tax etc. But that is at the rental desks discretion so OP cannot put that here.

Secondly, get a grip, op is posting a reasonably priced get away, that the op has researched and checked, including proof. The op has not put forward a package holiday, feel free to go Thomas cook and see how much that would be.

Instead of being so critical, say thanks to the OP and reprice it yourself with whomever hire car you would prefer.

Thanks OP, good deal. Hot

Do I 100% need to car hire at this place? Is it a bit out of the way?

And also the price for car hire is £48 cheapest on that site, am I missing a trick or has it gone up?

Also, checked the weather and its like 10degrees at the moment? Is end of march going to be hot at all? lol

My favourite holiday destination but give Castillo beach bungalows a miss unless you're on a very tight budget and defo don't waste your time and money on the transfer shuttle option because a taxi will have you in the resort within 10 minutes and about 13 Euros.

I have not voted, but what would make me wary without looking into it further, would be
1) the costs of luggage for a 10 day holiday (never used ryanair, but they seem to have a bad rep for hidden extras)
2) the nightmare stories you hear about privately booked bus transfers (god knows what Portinax would cost if you just jumped in a taxi at the airport, it's at the other end of the island).
3)Also is this exempt from the hotel room tax?
4) If you're not booking all inclusive, then what will the exchange rate be like next summer? At least two meals are covered though.
As I said, not voted.
Portinax is a quiet village, can't think think where the nearest reasonable supermarket is (post office is cheap for booze though). Hope 3 kids are happy with the beach, a few swings/slides, and I assume an apartment block pool, because with no kids clubs and evening entertainment there could be some grumbles.

Luggage can be added on at an additional cost with both Monarch and Ryanair. I think Monarch hand luggage allowance is 10kg. I haven't included it here as in August I've no idea what a family of 5 need luggage wise. I mean do kids need 10kg each? I did two weeks in Japan on less than 10kg of luggage but each to their own.

I'm unsure on the city tax, but I know lots of European destinations, eg Italy have this which is normally settled upon arrival at the hotel. Of course you can change the hotel for an AI one, and you could hire a car. I think it depends on what facilities want, some want an AI resport where they don't need to move for a week, others prefer to get out and about. The hotel website gives some indication of what is nearby and activities but there appears to be shops nearby for food and drink too. The hotel webaite is here

The transfers via bus with holiday taxis have good review and are on cash back sites. You can also look at transfers with hoppa.com or similar.

Each to their own, two people have messaged me who have booked this so I guess it's weighing up inconvenience versus cost. For some people they prefer to pay extra to fly direct others would rather use the money they saved towards another holiday. I'm just showing budget school holiday deals do exist with some compromises.
'Flights also have a short stop in Madrid but it's a quick plane change, no more of an inconvenience than Ryanair or Easyjet and Iberia are more comfortable.'

those flights are dreadful I would pay the extra to fly direct
Have you looked to see what the 'extra' is? :D
probably about a grand more but a four hour flight is more than enough when travelling with small children. I would rather book a package deal and pay in installments throughout the year
Then crack on with it, you obviously have more money than sense, hence your stupid post...
I wouldn't say I have more money than sense as if I didn't have the money to fly direct I wouldn't fly at all, I would holiday with my children in the UK because almost doubling the flight time is ridiculous in my opinion. as far as stupid posts go yours is definitely up there with the best of them! so thanks I will crack on whilst you keep being pathetic
So basically what you are saying is you would cut your nose off to spite your face ?
what I'm saying is how I spend my money is none of your business so leave it at that and move on with your day ;)

Ironically I've never has any delays with Ryanair or Easyjet. In fact, every flight I've ever taken has got me in early. My longest delays have been with BA from London to Manchester!

It's a budget airline, it is what it is and in the main, the price reflects that.

Thanks for the heads up Rachel.
PDC is in the north and I've been there in our winter months, it tends to rain frequently and the temps are several degrees below that of the south of the island, if you want English style weather then its fine, if you want more sun then stick to the south.

Is it the same price of you are just 2 adults?

You just need.to amemd the search. As the previous poster mentioned GC is a similar price but hotels were more expensive but it is just a case of amending the search.

My girls are 12 and 14 and to me and in the eyes of the law they are still children!
Fed up with airlines amongst others ripping us hard working parents off.
Hot from me though 8)
Why should adults have to subsidise 14 year olds taking up a plane seat?

No good poking me cause I won't bite!

Is half term beginning to be staggered across the country then(which would obviously be very beneficial for family holiday prices),because here in Norfolk February half term is the week before.

Same here, in the South West it's always the week with Valentine's day.

Don't bet on it, travel companies will simply increase prices for longer periods now to cover all the staggered holidays. Makes me mad.

It's ten years since we went at the end of April and it was too cold to go in the sea, and you needed a jacket in the evenings. Also, not everything was open. This was Ipsos. We did go to Sidari, but I can't really remember it. Corfu is very pretty and friendly though and greener than some of the other islands as it's further north.
I wouldn't worry much for the one star hotel, just not sure if the weather will be warm enough to enjoy the sea... for two weeks its dead cheap though..
Sidari was naff 8 years ago, maybe it's picked up a bit since?
I am no snob (trust me) but I must be honest, even 1 star hotels are a no from me
I have been to Corfu in April and May and it's often still quite cool, which I don't mind. Lovely island though.

Sorry it doesn't include luggage. I thought it was included. It is only 5kg but I think you could do this. Current forecast for the next couple of weeks are between 21 up to 29 degrees and likely to be warmer at the end of the month so I don't think you'll need heavy clothing. The apartment has a washing machine too which is a bonus so you really don't need to pack much! Bag charges are a rip off with Thomson!
Most carry on cases weigh 2-3kg so good luck taking only 2-3kg of clothing etc etc to last 10 days, Thomson and Thomas Cook are very strict at weighing when j have used them. could just wear multiple layers of clothing though ;)

Does my head in that they are now so strict on what you carry on yet people can weigh 100kg more than me, spill over into my seat and that's deemed acceptable

Still a good price regardless although the weather can be hit and miss in paphos in April (Rains a fair bit)

The flights are now gone so I'm going to expire it and I will edit the post so if those flights come back on it will be ready to go! I've actually found a couple of good accommodation options too so that's no big deal. Hopefully those flights come back!!

Edited By: rachelandgromit on Apr 01, 2016 16:51
Flights show up as +£1600 2+2 that could be more of a problem oO
Oops! Your accommodation says April not August! That could be awkward! :p

Oh hell so it does I need to change that! I can't see the flights now on mobile or desktop so they must have gone now too...

Edited By: rachelandgromit on Apr 01, 2016 16:42
Desktop here. No way those flight prices are repeatable, cheapest outbound is £49 with a return/ Inbound through the whole of Aug/sept is £111 - fab deal for flights alone if you managed to grab them. :)

Stayed in cayo coco and it was great. Such great people I found. Brilliant if you like rum. Lobster was good too if I remember rightly. I'd recommend the 2-3 night visit to Havana. We flew and it was better that a story I heard of the bus trip.
it's a good 2 hour transfer from the airport out across the causeway to the Cayo. Castro had it built as his summer retreat
I'd avoid Cuba until they get some American investment. Government owned and run resorts that look amazing but scratch the surface and things aren't as rosy. Mosquitoes are a massive problem out on the Cayo. food is average, staff are incredibly biased towards Spanish speaking guests and Canadians. service is abysmal unless constantly handing out dollars. money changer tries to short you on every transaction. nappies and other products for the baby stolen from our room as they are not available. no branded soft drinks, just generic local drinks. it's like the third world. I truly believe America has a lot to answer for and ifs time for them to put it right. took a trip to Havana, beautiful city crumbling to the ground. The saving grace, some of the most beautiful beaches I have been on. we stayed at melia Las dunas if you want to know where to avoid.
