Alternative for center park holidays

OK - its my first entry , but I have to pass this tip on. If you are a fan of center parks try the european site. The hols are much cheaper and the standard and quality are better than the 'rip off britain' parks.
OK - you have to add the cost of a ferry , but think of all the cheap wine etc.. you can bring back!
(we recently went on our 3rd trip to Erperheide in Belgium this year for £320 midweek break in a VIP cottage at 'peak' whit hols)

If the link does not work - try http://www.centerparcs.com or centerparcs.be

Not really a hot deal, but certainly worth the tip. We went to De Vossermeren in Belgium last year, and Kempervennen in Holland this year.
Cost is about half that of a UK Center Parcs holiday, and the activities are miles cheaper than the UK parks.

Thanks for being gentle with me!!!

How similar are the parks to the english ones?

Welcome from me too gangey :)

Doesn't look too much cheaper than the UK to be honest. Went to Whinfell Forest in Jauary this year and paid £125 for a midweek break for 4 of us so £62.50 per couple. Bargain!

How did you get it for that price as that obviously well discounted.

The more you stay with Centre Parcs the more discount they seem to offer you on booking for the next year if you book with them early. We've stayed there 3 years on the trot at Whinfell Forest and for 4 adults and 3 kids it costs £260 in December for a 4 day lond weekend break.

That does look a good deal if you want to travel abroad, but are your children really that patient for driving so far? :p

Much cheaper!

Expect naked Germans in the saunas :-)

btw, the real tip when booking these is to try different languages on the site - they charge British visitors more, so you might want to use the French/Dutch site.

If they do this I'm sure the EU would be very interested......

Do the staff running the activities speak English or will we all have to learn Flemish/French...

Hi,

yes - most of the staff speak full English at the Belgium park we have stayed at.
When we first went about 3 years ago there was not many English at the park - but 3 years on there seems to be about 30% English visitors. Please note that when you get an online quote that theprice is in Euros and not in stirling - so its cheap! also they take a deposit off you at time of booking and take the rest about a month before booking.
I also find the regime very laid back without the 'nanny' state regulations you find over here. Eating out is OK - and prices are surprisingly inexpensive.
Hope this helps

They DO do that.

If you want to pay more money, you go ahead and book in English.

Just tried it - said I was Dutch:

vr 17-8-07 -
vr 24-8-07 1 x 2 p., VIP cottage (EH241)
De Eemhof, Nederland € 949

Said I was in the UK:

Available stays
ArrivalDeparturePeriod Staying in Price
Fri 17/08/07 -
Fri 24/08/07 1 x 2 prs., VIP villa (EH241)
De Eemhof, Netherlands € 999

And no, it's not illegal.

H - hello all - Gangey again.
Another tip - These type of parks are even cheaper if you go to sunparks in Belgium. Not quite as good as center parks but still a bargain if you are on tighter budget. Plenty of English folk there when I went in 2006 at the Den Hann site. However went back to center parks this year as it catered better for our very young children.
Check it out - -

Thanks for the great (original) tip gangey. I just took my family of 5 to Loohorst for a midweek half term break for £178 (plus £63 return ferry and fuel). We visited London the day before and stayed over in Cantebury Travelodge for £19.

Loohorst was lovely, the chalet superb, the staff all friendly and happy to speak English. The swimming pool was great (it must cost a fortune to keep the outside pool heated enough to swim in during winter, but it was great).

That was definitely a hot deal.

Best wishes, Neil

Hi

Glad you liked it!

We are going to Erperhiede for whit week in VIP villa for the 4th year on the trot. Total cost was approx £300 mom - fri. Using Hull fery @ £220. Total inc fuel etc comesi n at about £600 . Not bad for a 6 night hol (inc 2 on the boat) you'd be shocked at how much extra the UK park costs for simlar villa at same time.

Thanks for the positive reply

Gangey
