You probably won't have heard about this phone, but for the price it truly is an amazing device. It's £49.99 on Orange pay as you go at the Link (previously £59.99 at Currys). Delivery is free. If you have any old (but working) handset to trade-in you'll be given £10 for it, so you're paying just £39.99. Purchase via QuidCo.com for 2.5% cashback if you wish.

"The Emblaze Touch 7 isn't the company's first mobile phone product, but it's one of the most interesting, both from a technical perspective and for the fact that it gives Emblaze a good change at a market breakthrough.

To look at, the Emblaze Touch 7 is a smart looking handset, but perhaps a little derivative in its styling. Underneath, this is a tri-band GSM phone with a 176x220 pixel TFT display in 262,000 colours, a 1.3 megapixel camera with flash, Bluetooth, an MP3/multimedia player and expandable memory.

The internal memory on the Emblaze Touch 7 is 64Mb, and this can be expanded by using what Emblaze called "micro-flash" memory, which we assume to mean microSD/TransFlash cards. Other features on the Emblaze Touch 7 include a loudspeaker function, WAP 2.0 browsers, wallpapers and Java support for games.

Perhaps the specification of the Emblaze Touch 7 looks a little unremarkable, but this handset is pitched at the value-for-money end of the market, and it should cost around £60/100 for pay-as-you-go/prepay customers. It's also a smart looking device that looks more expensive than it actually is, and is distinctive enough to make it stand out from a lot of the competition.

Initially, the Emblaze Touch 7 will be available through Currys and Currys.digital stores in the UK, followed by other retailers later. For UK customers, the Touch 7 should be available before Christmas, and the specifications mark it out as an appealing and good value for money device."

- Review from MobileGazette. Thank you.

EDIT: This handset is reported to come UNLOCKED and UNBRANDED.

THE Emblaze website seems to suggest this handset is unlocked but after contacting ebay sellers it would seem this handset is indeed locked to orange which is unfortunate as the phone itself is incredible value for money

I have heard conflicting stories regarding SIM locks

The one sold by Currys before Christmas on Orange were unlocked, but I have also heard about them being locked.

If they are unlocked its going to be expensive - i.e. getting the code from Orange :x

My son got one of these, from Currys on Orange PAYG. It was unlocked & had no network branding on the phone.

My daughter has the D600, & she wants to change over to the Touch 7 phone. As she says its easier to use?

Hi RS2000

I was looking at this phone and maybe you can answer a question for me

Does the phone come with a PC data cable? and if so will the hone also charge from this cable?

Thanks

good find! Shame I just got my son a D600 for his birthday, could have saved a fortune. He asked for a slider with bluetooth so this would have been great!!

Are faults within 12 months covered by warranty?

emblaze website states:
"Q: Where can I get my Touch 7 repaired?

A: If the damage to the phone is outside of its 28 day warranty or the fault is due to customer damage rather than product fault, you can get the phone repaired by Curry's own repair centre.

This can be requested directly at the Currys store or by calling 0870 9090550. We have been advised by Currys that there will be a charge to the customer for assessment and they will also provide a quote for cost of repair."

Had a look at this in currys today. Very nice, smaller than I thought it would be. Only drawback I can see is the keypad/buttons are very small, not suitable for someone with Cuban cigars for fingers. A bargain IMHO. Now, if it could be deffo confirmed it was sim free...

:!: I have just phoned The Link and they have confirmed that this phone is locked to Orange :!:

Transflash/microsd isn't too hot for music use unfortunately, cos the cards are a bit limiting. Prices aren't too bad anymore (1GB at £10ish, 2GB £30), but they're having real trouble making a 4GB card. When they do, expect it to be well >£100.

For a music phone, I'd go for a phone that takes regular or miniSD, cos you get 4gb cards in both formats for under £30 now. There are even 8GB SD cards floating around for £60ish, although you'd have to check the phone supported that big.
#24
Does it really matter if you had a 1Gb card, as it so easy to change the music on the card now. I think you'd get emough music on a 1Gb card to keep ones self entertained for at least a day. Then when you get home just down load some different songs onto it.
#25
It's a generic phone.

Non-Orange approved, so unlikely to be sim-locked to Orange.
#26
Couldn't see any spec's saying if it has an fm radio, anyone confirm or deny this? Just get a bit bored of music on the dog walk sometimes...

Bought two of these phones, one before and one after christma. Both were unlocked and had no Orange branding on them. One of the phones has gone back for repair though,it was just displaying a searching message.Maybe it was a one off but overall the kids are happy with them.Think I will get myself one..

If Emblaze carries on releasing phones which look good with specs which are this much better than the price tag is worth then they could take quite a strong hold on the mobile market.

28 day warranty

Seems Emblaze are trying to evade UK consumer law then :whistling:

Wonder how many people will stand for that if their phone goes tits up on day 29.

I'm sure consumer groups would have a field day if this was the case!

Seems that the dixons group (currys, currys.digital, pcworld, the link) will be the only UK retailers getting this mobile till December this year.
