Can't wait for the first time traveller to comment it was cheaper last week.

Nope, same prices as last week - this is the 16GB version which is a tenner dearer. I got the 8GB version for my mum last week & am very impressed with it. If you're going to hack it to run Android make sure you do NOT allow it to connect to the internet and perform any OTA updates. It ships with software version v5.0 or 5.01 and it's a 5 minute job to flash Cyanogenmod 12.1. It can be done with later firmwares but is a little more complicated.

What happens if you connect it to the internet

Read the post. Don't connect to the internet and perform updates, it will be more difficult to flash with later updates than the one it ships with !

I have the 8gb version which I managed to get for £15 refurbished and 3 month warranty on eBay, just to read on mainly, I've flashed it with CM 12.1 and gapps and it runs really well. £39.99 for the 16gb version new is a bargain.

If you aren't going to install a custom rom then connect it to the net and allow it to update.

Some custom roms can only be installed from certain FireOS versions and if you update FireOS you my not be able to install a custom rom or you may have to wipe it and re-flash an older stock rom.

Why buy one to reflash? Doesn't your phone have the same functionality already??

Except Tesco had the 16GGB for this price with a case and a 32GB micro SD card if you're a fan of time machines. ;)

What's the benefit of flashing with stock android over just installing the play store (which is very, very easy)?

You don't have the amazon bloatware on it and it's more customisable. Each to their own.
