Still not decided what to buy Amazon Fire Tv 1st Gen (but having trouble finding one) or just get the 2nd Gen one. I hear there are lag issues with the Wifi remote on the 2nd gen and is slower than the older Bluetooth remote of the 1st gen.

Not really sure what's going on with the 3rd gen no news as of yet.

Any help or input appreciated if anyone has one now?

This seems cheap still £79.99 everywhere else.

Still a very good machine. I've found the second gen to be all-round a better option than the first.
No real signs of a third generation being released but Amazon will likely reduce the second generation on Black Friday

I've got the second gen and love it. Got it from Amazon £59 when it was on offer

I need it for mainly kodi side load and IPTV currently using a raspberry Pi 265mb it's laggy and slow!

Any issues with the remote taking a while to action commands after pressing? like a lag?

This will blow that generation of pi out of the water in terms of speed.
I've recommended these to several friends and set them up as you are - never seen an issue with lag on button presses

Also tempted to wait till black Friday now! what sort of price do you think it would be?

They were £55 on prime day three months ago. May be an indicator? I'm not 100% but I think they were £64.99 last Black Friday but they were relatively new then

I have an unopened Fire Tv box, purchased on 19/8/2015 (so 1st gen I believe) which I will sell if anyone is interested, it's still in it's cellophane wrapping.

just for information.

I have a gen 1 and also a gen 2. I have had lag problems with the gen 2 using a voice remote. no problems using a standard remote on it.

there is no noticeable speed difference using kodi on either. gen 1 has a toslink gen 2 doesn't. toslink very good. gen 2 has a microsd instead of toslink

Went for 2nd gen anyway so if i get a 4K tv at least it will be a little future proof.

I found with mine the voice remote was fine for about 10 days then started getting lag. amazon sent out a second which did the same. I complained and said could I just have a non voice remote as that works. so I got a free non voice remote which works 100%.
there is a bug with the SD implementation. you cannot use more than one microsd. as it won't read apps that are already on a microsd when you put it in. I was going to have one for apps and one for games but it won't do that. It's put in a microsd and leave it there. I have also added a bluetooth mouse which works well with some apps. :)

Amazon US have dropped the refurb prices on both gens. Dare say the same price drop will hit UK shortly also. Don't forget also the next software update will be coming also changing the entire interface. Think from memory or you could look at other posts from the site below that the 2nd gen will get it and the 1st gen is unknown. Only £75 new anyhow. Most reports also saying the 2nd gen stick is a fast as the 1st gen box although no wired Ethernet but better wifi anyhow.

Hope you enjoy your purchase. Apart from aftvnews website that is linked above I can recommend you have a look at the aftv utility HERE for sideloading/back up Kodi etc (Windows only)

Also apps2fire for Android, similar not as nice a GUI as the one above though.
