Amazon price drop policy - get the difference refunded!

I found this on another forum, thought I'd share this here...hopefully its not a double post! People on the other forum have tried this to get money back - I haven't yet.

---------------------------
Not many people know this, but Amazon has a price drop policy. If they lower the price on something that youve purchased within the past 30 days, theyll issue a credit (although you have to ask for it).

If you want to check if any of your purchases are eligible for a refund, just follow these simple steps:

1. Visit Your Account and look at all invoices from the past thirty days.

2. Click on the item names to pull up the current item description/price and compare to the price that you paid.

3. If you paid more than the current price, copy down the order number and go to the Return and Refunds Contact Form page.

4. Select Refund Inquiry as your subject, and check off the order(s) of interest. If you dont see the order in question listed, enter the order number in the Other field.

5. State in the comments that the price dropped, and that you want to be credited for the difference. It might help to mention the item name as well as old and new price, but Im not sure that this is necessary.

yes. This is true. I have today recieved a refund from them. Have a go!!!it works fine if your item is less than 30 days from dispach.

I've tried this myself now successfully as well.

The Returns and Refunds Form mentioned above can be found at: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/contact-us/returns-and-refunds.html

I was looking for this two days ago and couldn't find information on it anywhere! I was sure I'd read about it somewhere and had a good look around on the Amazon help pages but didn't see it listed.

I usually have items in my basket 'saved for later' and see the prices can go up and down quite often.

What could be useful is when you purchase an item go back and add this to your basket again and save it for later. It'll say next to the item you've saved when you added it to your basket so it'll be easy to see if you're in the 30 day period. It'll then notify you at the top of the basket page if the item's price has changed. :)

oh, and Merry Christmas to everyone :santa:

Thanks for your post. I bought a Kingston Technology 1GB Secure Digital (SD) Card several days ago. It was £8.99 and sold by Amazon. Now the price has dropped to £5.94 but it seems that it is now sold by another seller rather than Amazon. In this case, can I get the difference refunded?

If the price is lower and you claim a refund then in the same 30 days since your original purchase, it drops again, will they do the same?

I doubt it, that would lead to abuse and possibly as long as the price keeps changing every month.
#18
That's worth knowing. Did not know this.

Merry Christmas.

Just checked all my recent orders, every single one of them has gone up hah, I think I will not be letting them know so they can charge me more ;)

Sorry, I think you misunderstood (or I didn't explain clearly enough). I mean for instance if you bought something on the 1st dec for £50 and then it went down to £40 so you filled in a refund request and got £10 back then on the 29th of dec it went down to £30 - could you apply for the difference i.e. the extra £10 that it had gone down as it was still within the original 30 days?
#21
Everything I've bought in the last month has gone UP, often by upto 50%!!!

Given that I also used the Hellmans codes and cancelled the Hellmans book after other parts of my orders had despatched, some of the stuff is 3-4 times what I paid for it!!
#22
I noticed this too that in the last couple of weeks everything had gone up by atleast a few pounds. Although the prices were still pretty good even then, I guess it's down to the last minute christmas shoppers needing their goods quicky they're not likely to wait a week or two for the price to go back down again.
#23
Incredible! Amazon change their prices so frequently this could be really fantastic! Thank you!!!! Rep and hot left.

Hi, I have used this when I bought something of the US Amazon site.
I used the following web site http://www.timberfrog.com/apcn/ to notify me of the price change and then when it notified me that the price went down by $20 I put in a request a for a refund from Amazon and get the cash back the next day.
Very useful to know and the timberfrog web site does all the hard work for you.

I actually did this (before I saw this thread) on a Sony handycam, got £26 back.

Working nights at Christmas, but just applied for £2 refund but the new price is from their Jersey warehouse. Hope it goes through but won't be bothered if it doesn't as I'm already very happy with the service they provide. All my other orders have actually gone up in price some by £10.

I'm going to guess its a bot that does the refunding, as it wasn't exactly a human response, but hey I got £3.95 refund not the £2 I thought so not a bad result. Plus I got two emails so I wonder whether I'll get double that :)
#35
