I have been using Amazon a lot recently so thought I'd give their Prime service a go with a free trial. I went to cancel it then noticed something right next to the Prime settings - a student membership.

Turns out Students can add their .ac.uk e-mail address and get a free trial of Prime (limited version - Unlimited one day delivery, Discounted express delivery, Student offers, but no Prime video or Kindle lenders library) for SIX MONTHS. Then 50% off a full subscription to Amazon Prime.

This is the first I've seen or heard of this promotion so thought it was worth sharing for anyone who might make use of it.

---------------------
You can upgrade early to unlock all features of Amazon prime

-----------------------------

Prime works out to £39 a year using this promotion

Don't vote cold just because you aren't a student. Thank you.

This instantly went cold - anybody care to comment why?
I'm noticing more and more people voting cold just because the deal doesn't apply to them (not students) - am I missing the point of this site or isn't this about voting offers hot and cold based on whether or not they are a good deal so that people who can, will make use of them?

Yep, people will vote cold if you list an item and they can buy an alternate, inferior item, cheaper. Or for no reason at all. Voting cold should require a comment or link to a cheaper option.

That would never work as you would have endless comments with one word 'cold'

Cold - Prime delivery can be had for a much cheaper price over 12 months.

If you have the student membership can you add other family members, like with a normal prime membership?

You can share Prime with 4 other people on HUKD - and therefore you split the bill. I believe Prime is now £80, so it costs you £16 for the year.
However, you may be able to negotiate a slightly cheaper price since only the main account holder gets the video service (you are paying only for the delivery service). But if you only want deliveries via Prime, £16 / year is a much more competitive price :)

I along with many others on HUKD already do this.

thank you for info. I didn't realise you could share prime with others. On #7 butterbean asked whether the student prime can be shared with other people as well but no answer yet. I'm just going to see if I can find the info on Amazon.

You cannot share it (Student Prime) ;) But you can share the ordinary prime which then works out cheaper.
Officially it is meant to be shared across a household, but none of us have had any problems whatsoever and they accept whatever address. There's an old thread in "Misc" somewhere, might not have been posted on for days/weeks though.

That's wonderful if you want to split the bill for a regular prime account (I haven't checked their terms and conditions but I wonder if it can be revoked doing it that way?).
However this IS a good deal for anyone who is a student and wants a Prime subscription. Also no chance of getting your account closed down for violating any terms and conditions :D

was there a thread on here somewhere for people that wanted to split the prime account cost? Can't find it. Thanks
