I made use of this on three dots just after Christmas. Fantastic price!

If not in a hurry, you have until 11 February in case they reduce it to £45. At Christmas you could get for £40.50 with this offer when it was priced at £45.

I'd rather pay 40 than 45
and I'm the kind of raging tightwad who can't bring himself to buy something unless it's the best deal ever
still, good for those who want it now
thanks for sharing op - heat

I'm using mine to control the hive heating & plugs, play radio, play from amazon music, timers, alarms, weather, traffic reports, news. It isn't rubbish, in fact, at rrp it's a bargain.

Holding out for Google home, likely more expensive, likely will be better in the long run.

I was bought one of these for Christmas. I set it up with much scepticism but to my surprise it is brilliant. I can control my lights and heating as well as tell it my shopping list which is conveniently on my phone when I arrive at the shops. Also promise of Sonos support later this year this is an absolute bargain. At this price even if something better comes along in a years time it is disposable.

it was £39.99 a while ago and I thought that was too much, 29.99 sounds about right for it.

Echo or dot ?

Either, they have the same functionality. I asked for a dot and an echo for Christmas, within days we were so imprsssed that we got another 3 dots for the study and a couple of bedrooms. We have the echo in the family room, due to the much fuller sound it produces. Looking forward to Sonos integration, as we've got a few rooms covered.

Is there any kind of decent sound from the dot ?

I suppose that's subjective. For the size, I think it's fine for radio or back ground noise, but you would want to use the line out to plug into something more substantial if wanting to enjoy music

I'm used to listening to music on my laptop speakers, and it's a lot better than that, if that gives you an idea. I got a cheap Anker bluetoothe speaker to go with the Dot for when I plan to listen to music for longer than half an hour or so.
