    doesn't matter.

I opted for the 3770k, not sure if I needed that much of a cpu though.

I5 beats this hands down so go for that people! Still a good deal though if you want AMD

    Only £10 difference between i5-3570K and i5-2500K on Amazon. + 1 for i5-3570K.
Thinking of buliding a new system but have Haswell palying on my mind.Wish there was more solid info on Haswell. I know there is always something better round the corner with tech and every few years another socket comes out.Still on 775 with a E8400 :D

it will be introduced in Q2 2013, with new 1150 socket. if you can manage on that E8400 till then, it would make a great upgrade for the next few years. if you need new processing power immediately, then IB is obvious choice.

Come on Mr IT guru it will use socket 1150 not 1050!

@ roister. Unless your going to be using the IGPU on Haswell then its probably not going to be worth the wait. It's only likely to be 10% faster and be about 10% better on power use.

Looks like I'll be selling a z77 mobo and a 3770k next year on ebay then! :)

I knew something wasn't quite right there.

it must have felt real good for you to spot that error and have the pleasure to correct it.

    I feels ya, brah.

Is everyone against the AMD range for gaming performance, or for performance in general? From what I can see, the architecture would lend itself well to running multiple virtual machines - probably better than an i5? I'm looking to build a PC that can run 4-5 VMWare guests (with 32GB RAM to share) - and to me, this looks as though it would serve the purpose better than a quad core. I know I'll get shot down in flames, but if anyone can tell me that the architecture wouldn't be good for that sort of setup, I'd appreciate the feedback....

what's the budget? but i'm guessing 3770K will be the #1 choice.

As little as possible. I've priced up using this CPU and can come in at about £410 for parts. Don't want to go much higher than that.

Basically, M5A99X, this CPU, Antec 300 Two case, Coolermaster PSU, generic RAM, Sony DVD drive. I already have the HDDs.
    kunyk
    MB 86
    CPU 132 after CB
    Case 40
    PSU (just guessing) 40
    RAM (4x8GB) £55x4 = 220
    DVD 13

    £531

    what am I doing wrong?

I'm not paying that much for the RAM. Special deal. Even if I were to pay that much for the RAM, from what I can see, a decent mobo plus the 3770k is going to set me back over £400 straight away....given that it's still only four cores, assigning individual cores to the VMWare guests is going to be tricky. Also, doesn't the 3770k only run at top whack by "sleeping" the other cores? Which the AMD doesn't do - it runs them all at full clock speed? Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that the AMD will certainly be the best bet for my requirement, despite the AMD naysayers...thanks for the feedback though.

I got this for £138.50 with £20 cashback on top so £118.50 and I couldn't be happier with it. Great little chip. Don't understand why it receives so much hate.

FX8150 doesn't have 8 physical cores, if it did, i'd say go for it.

otherwise even with £80 more cost, 3770K is just a better option.

    you're also forgetting hyperthreading.
