Manufacturer's Description
Easy printing, scanning and copying

When you want fuss-free, high-quality printing, scanning and copying, the Epson Stylus SX218 is the ideal choice. Viewing and printing photos is easy using the clear LCD screen, and you don’t even need a PC to copy and print.

The SX218 gives you glossy, lab-quality photos, which you can easily edit before printing using the included software. Adjust colour, change contrast or fix red-eye in just a few clicks.

It’s just as easy to perfect your scans - the included software helps you correct backlight, restore colour and remove dust.
Print perfect documents and lab-quality photos

Whatever you print, you’ll get high-quality results every time with the SX218. Produce documents with crisp, laser-like text, and print outstanding lab-quality photos.
DURABrite inks
Enjoy prints that last

Your great-looking prints will stay that way for years to come. This is thanks to Epson’s DURABrite Ultra Ink, which features resin-coated particles for tough, long-lasting results. Prints dry instantly and resist water, smudging, fading and even highlighter pens.

Save money with individual inks

Epson’s individual ink cartridge system means you only ever need to replace the colour used. Since you won’t have to buy a whole new set of inks every time one colour is used up, this saves you money.
Cut bills and environmental impact

Qualified by ENERGY STAR, the SX218’s excellent power efficiency helps you reduce your energy bills and your impact on the environment.
Easily edit scanned text

Save time and effort with the included ABBYY FineReader™ OCR software, which allows you to easily edit any text you’ve scanned.
Epson technology
Dependable printing with Micro Piezo technology

Epson’s Micro Piezo printhead technology gives you reliable, high-quality results that can’t be matched.

Micro Piezo works by running an electric charge through piezoelectric elements, causing their shape to change. This creates a pressure wave that propels the ink. Thermal-type inkjets used by Epson’s competitors work by heating the ink, which causes it to expand and move through the nozzle to be fired onto the paper.
Epson DURABrite Ultra Ink
DURABrite is resistant to water, smudging and fading. Click here for a larger image.

The fundamental problem with thermal inkjet technology is that it’s less robust. The ink has to survive extreme conditions, and the heater is prone to burning out. Boiling ink can cause residue deposits on the element, and over time, this means the printer becomes less efficient.

Avoiding all these pitfalls, Micro Piezo operates at room temperature, offering greater ink stability and delivering perfect control over the size and placement of each ink droplet.

And, as the Micro Piezo printhead is a permanent part of the print system, unlike other manufacturers’ printheads, it is one less consumable to dispose of.
Clearer, longer-lasting prints with DURABrite Ultra Ink

Epson DURABrite Ultra Ink is an advanced pigment-based ink technology that encapsulates ink particles in a protective resin coating. This makes the ink resistant to water, smudging and fading.

The benefits include greater durability and dramatically less bleed-through than conventional dye-based inks.

DURABrite Ultra delivers laser-like text and glossy photos, which last over 200 years* when stored in a photo album.

where do you guys get your ink cartridges from ? I use ink.co.uk and they charge £1.27 per colour for this printer. Are there any other suppliers out there?
#9
get your cables cheap! I dont think this one comes with a cable. good printer for the price thought and compatible inks are ok prices on this

I don't personally like Epson printers, but great price, and cheap ink! How easy is it to use compatibles with this...I know the chips Epson (and most others nowadays) put on their cartridges seem to cause problems for quite a few people when using compatibles. If this one's OK, then fantastic price...voted hot anyway!

Stinkyink is supposed to be good...I personally have been getting my compatible cartridges from high-rated sellers on Ebay, as suggested by piggy92 (example given) and have never had a problem apart from 1 faulty cartridge over the years, which the seller replaced without even insisting I send the old one back. Massive savings on sets.

good price :p

Does it come with any ink?

Do cartridges for this kind of printer tend to dry out or have problems if left for a couple of months without printing?

I have a good, but bulky, mono laser printer that i'm thinking of replacing with a colour inkjet to save space and print some colour, what do you guys think?

Does it come with any ink?

The one I posted in my link above Cheaper deal posted here does and it's cheaper by £3.50 so not as good a deal as far as I can see.

Also a extra set can be ordered at the same time as the printer for just 5.99
very tempted as my home printer packed up last week

Ordered. Quality
#22
The other deal includes recycled ink cartridges.
And Amazon is anyday a better seller.

True, but it is not a like-for-like comparison.
The cheaper Morgan deal is bundled with non-genuine recycled ink cartridges, whereas this Amazon deal is supplied with genuine Epson ink cartridges.
Don't want to start nor enter into a genuine-versus-original cartridge debate - you pay your money you make your choice.
Disappointing that Amazon's optional 3-year extended warranty offer has conflicting wording over the qualification requirement to buy compatible (read: original) carts.

I have a 5-year-old Canon that uses individual cartridges and has a separate print head, like the Epsons do, mine can be left for several months and will then print perfectly, I assume this is normal. Whereas I've found that the printers with print-heads built into the cartridges (e.g. HP and Lexmark - have had both in the past) can be utter swines to unblock if left for a few weeks. Would guess on that basis that this type of printer would be the best option, but please correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm assuming that the Epson will work in a similar way to my Canon due to having similar cartridge system (mine are unchipped, but very much doubt that would make a difference).

Don't be tempted. Suction is bad and 3 of my previous Epson had the same suction problems. I used compatible inks and then the printer could not recognise genuine ink, another waiting to be chucked!
