Anyone know what the customs limit is at the moment...dollar wise? I'm interested in getting Bones season 1 & 2 and would like to have them ship together minimising shipping costs, this would make it $33.98 + shipping...is this likely to get caught?? :?
#2
no that comes to £22.45 ish. But bought seperately it comes to only £12.25. They calculate the conversion for you at the checkout

That should be Ok - the customs limit for July works out at just over $35 ($35.25 I think) so you should be fine if your order value before shipping costs in $33.98.

value is £18, or £36 for gifts. sometimes people put value of shipping in there, which you aren't meant to do.

does anyone know if you can order from Amazon.com purely with gift vouchers? and will gift vopuchers bought from .co.uk work? basicly, i don't have a Visa or a Mastercard i can use, so i can't actually buy stuff from them. was wondering if i could get around it by buying gift vouchers.

No, UK gift vouchers won't work on Amazon.com, sorry!

£12.25 for the Family Guy seasons is rubbish.

to much hassle with customs, voted cold

I'm interested in Season 1 and 2 of Prison Break. Does anyone know if I can order both in one or do I have to do it in two separate orders?
#10
order has to be under £18 to avoid customs charges and even then you can't be sure as amazon put the value of the product on the customs slip not what you paid for it.

and where do customs come into this? if the order is under £18 then its fine. if not, you get a letter and you have to pay customs. doesnt make this a bad deal. moron

I jbought 3 dvds off amazon.com a few months ago which came to $65 dollars and paid no custom charges. I've bought many stuff from the USA and all under $100 and never have paid any sort of tax or charges.

I love 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia'!

Both series of Bones comes to £22.52 shipped. Very tempting, but knowing my luck I'd get hit by customs.

How much is the customs charge?
#18
Jesus are people that stupid.

1.) Order the items separately as one transaction WHICH WILL BE UNDER £18 ( unless the combined price of multiple items is less than £18). This will mean no custom charge.

2.) You are ordering from the states so of course delivery its not going to be free.

3.) To the moron who voted cold because of a stupid reason , please see 1.

Sorry to be blatant but I am having a bad day.

trust me if your order is over £18 you'l have to pay customs. i ordered all of the o.c and i got a slip from royal mail saying i have to pay customs and a bloody extra delivery charge or summat so summat like £18 on top of a £35 order, stupid or what. people you have been warned. but the deal is good any how so voted hot. thanks op

I buy from the US all the time - its pot luck if you get stung by customs. I have had to pay customs charges on items that are 50p over the limit (and if its over the limit, they do take the postage into account too and charge you on the lot, if the purchase price is under the limit, postage is ignored), but I've also managed to get through customs on items that have been several hundred pounds over the limit. These items are in HUGE boxes so its not like they could be missed either. It also depends a bit on your posty, I have a friend who's posty just leaves stuff in her porch regardless of wether she should have paid duty or not - this has been going on for several years with no one ever contacting her for payment. Hope that helps a bit?

Customs will only charge you if the order is over £18 BEFORE SHIPPING

If the order total is over £18, then they charge you VAT and duty on the WHOLE order value, including shipping, and then the Post Office adds an £8 'handling' charge

I have just ordered both series of 'Bones'. The total before shipping is £17.82 so should not be hit

Oooo, very tempted to got a couple of seasons of Buffy

I know that sometimes Amazon in the US ship items to Germany where they are then distributed around Europe. I had packages like this before and I guess that customs see it as being of European origin so don't charge anything if over the limit.

How on earth is this allowed on hotukdeals? Every single other American site is banned from Hotukdeals, why is Amazon.com allowed?

Personally I think any legitimate American site should be allowed, not just Amazon.com
#25
thanks - bought prison break 1 & 2 separately for piece of mind
#26
HOT me thinks. Season 2 of Prison Break came to £12.31 inc delivery and using their exchange rate.

If I get hit for customs I shall be complaining, but I don't expect to because it is sub £18.

Cheers OP, and I vote for Amazon.com to remain on HUKD.

Yep, I've bought clothes from the US totaling in excess of £100, as another user said it's just pot luck whether you get caught!

Could someone plse enlighten me as to how you buy from Amazon.com.
Every time that I try they tell me to begger off cos I have a UK address.
So they try to make me buy from Amazon.ripoff.co.uk

eg Amazon.com - Canon G9 $455 say £233
Amazon.co.uk £270

It was a lot more different a few months ago before the UK price started falling.
#29
Buy them together and the GOODS price is below £18. If you do get charged, it is roughly 20% so about £4. If you buy separately, you wont get charged by customs but it cost you £2 more to get them shipped. So buy them together and it might cost you £2 more, but it might cost £2 less. I don't think this sum is really worth arguing about!

DVD's, CD's, games and books. I know that they won't ship hardware, software and toys overseas.
