I'm getting more cynical by the day about the rip off "the captive audience" style here. It started off as a bargain hunter type thing but ended as an advertisers playground

Can't you download this for free to a cheap 8GB card?
You can. Although the performance might not be great, the B+ really does seem to be very compatible with most cards now, including no name cheap ones.
I'm confused by your reply, yes then no then yes again?
The B+ seems to be pretty good on the compatibility front, i.e. it can read and write to most cards; however, just because a card works doesn't mean it works fast! :)

Even the exact same (empty) card would be cheap in comparison would it not?

I think a lot of this will depend on what you're actually using your Pi for. For example, if you're using it exclusively for Kodi you're likely not going to care about write speeds all that much. 4k read, yes. 4k write, no.

Tempted but I've already got a spare Model B and only plan to use it for a VPN, so can't really justify buying the B+

For anyone looking, this case for the B+ looks quite nice, as it has vent holes (in the shape of the Pi logo) to help dissipate heat without leaving the sides exposed. http://www.amazon.co.uk/NEW-Raspberry-Model-Case-OneNineDesign-clear/dp/B00M8ZEFXS/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1422129879&sr=1-1&keywords=raspberry+pi+case

Likewise with this one, you could just remove the fan, which will obviously be annoyingly noisy, leaving the hole.

Actually it turns out the Gtkperf doesn't use the GPU on RPi but the CPU hence the misleading benchmark. Can't find the source for the RPi having better gfx...

Yes I see what you mean - it's not a brilliant test for graphics performance. But then why do so many RPi aficionado's believe that it has a powerful graphics engine? Especially when there just isn't any evidence to support this?

Thanks for that link! Very interesting. Looks like the BPi completed the graphics benchmark in around a quarter (24.94%) of the time it took a Raspberry Pi model B, so the BPI is in fact faster at graphics processing:

I don't know why people still buy these. Powerwise the tech was borderline when it first came out and is now well and truly surpassed by the likes of the Bannana Pi and Odroid C1.
It's true, those two products do have more power, I want a Odroid C1 myself but I don't think you will ever beat the sheer user numbers and support for the raspberry pi plus all the breakout boards and other add-ons you can get.
Yes the C1 is very nice and if you can avoid customs overcharging you then you can get a complete kit for <£50.
As for the BPi, it was designed to be more or less pin compatible with the RPi, although there are some physical differences which can cause problems for the lazy. I also agree with you about the community; it's certainly very big and a bit religious but I've found that if you strip away anything hardware-related then the advice tends to be portable. In fact it's something I've found very helpful. 8)

Banana i doesn't have as powerful graphics but a much more powerful CPU.
Again I've yet to see any independent data to back that up. That said, for me it's a moot point as (1) I don't play games on it and (b) my devices are used as headless Linux boxes anyway.

I would cancel the order tbh, these are great at what they do but you would be better served by a dedicated repeater if that's all you want to do. You will get a much stronger and farther reaching signal than this can achieve.
Very good find

The price has gone up to £25.95 - but the price with the clear case has stayed the same oddly
another thing Pi has in its favour not mentioned above is HDMI CEC so if your TV supports it you can control xbmc via TV remote
lolyehright
Expensive bit of junk.

Care to expand? £23 plus a few extra bits if you don't have them already, lets say total price of £40 - and no longer paying Sky £60 odd quid per month... I wouldnt call that expensive junk..
Yeah, Pi it is, cheer Fishmaster.

I consider myself reasonable tech savvy but could someone explain what this does for me? Seems like for £19.99 it is a wireless client to a wi-fi network that outputs to ethernet? If that's all it does I'm struggling to see what makes it a deal.
Have some heat
Being a quality brand at the best price around, I think that your deal definitely deserves heat rather than the chill that voters have given it. I gave it all the degress that I could. :D
Glad some are finding it useful :)
Thanks ordered :)
