Not I'm not great with this kind of thing, but I believe this may be a good deal for a dual core chip, so I'd like the techies' opinions on it please! This AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.00GHz is £38.52 including delivery from overclockers.

Details: The 3 main changes on the AM2 are that it will now use DDR2 Memory. A new pin out configuration which requires new heat sink fan configuration is also required. AM2 heatsinks will be available shortly and all our AM2 processors are retail boxed supplied with heatsinks and fan.
Below are the following recommended memory configurations:-
AM2 FX-62 DDR2-800 or DDR2-1066 (PC2-6400 - PC2-8500)
AM2 Dual Core X2 DDR2-667 or 800 (PC2-5300 or PC2-6400)
AM2 Athlon 64 DDR2-533 or 667 (PC2-4200 or PC2-5300)
AM2 Sempron DDR2-533 or 667 (PC2-4200 or PC2-5300)

Haha - nice deal, nice avatar! Happy easter!

advisable to buythe retail version(includes fan and heatsink) as it comes with a 3 year warranty.

Great price but it is "Clearance & B-Grade" stock and as the processor code isn't given we can't tell if it's the 89 or 65 watt version. I'd only buy the 65W version but maybe dropping them an email would yield the answer.

With processors I normally wouldn't see much risk buying clearance or b-grade stock but bear in mind this is overclockers.co.uk so they may have been returned because they didn't overclock as well as hoped.

There be a price drop on amd and intel cpu in april. Overclockers normally charge more for their products than other online suppliers.
#5
wow i paid 550£ for this 3 mnths ago!

Great price, I have purchased Overclockers "B" grade items in the past and all been perfect.

I got an Intel Diamond motherboard for £30 odd quid (retail over £140) and some great Raptor 1200dpi gaming mice for less than £10 each. The board was bare, did not come with anything but worked perfect, the mice were fully boxed and nothing wrong with them so can't understand why they were "B" grade.

one to the techies in the moneysaving forum claim that there was a price drop coming in the coming weeks on dual core , may be this is the start of it?
#8
Do beware that returning stuff to Overclockers is supposedly hell, and their B-grade stuff is apparently untested returns so could be a mixed bag.

This is true, there are price cuts coming from both Intel and AMD in a few weeks or so. :santa:

In the past few months there have been price cuts on a regular basis. There's fierce competition between AMD and Intel at the moment especially for dual core processors. But if you actually need to build/upgrade at this point in time just got to go with what's best at the moment else you'll always be waiting for the price cut round the corner.

Halo

Yup, they suck for returns. Expect a good few hours on the phone if you need to contact them. Their postage costs can be quite high, too. Saying that, though, they generally don't sell crap - most of what's on their site is decent quality stuff. I haven't used them for ages, now, though because they were such a pain when we had to return some stuff.

I ran overclockers B grade stuff for 3 yrs, mobo, processor and fan and graphics cards.. no probs whatso ever..

Use them all the time.. but then i do live local so no probs with returns...

Ebuyer the best when it come to returns. If your sending something back that cost high postage contact ebuyer they arrange a collection to pick it up free, if the item is faulty. Unlike Overclockers which comes out of your own expense, also they intend to refer you to the maunfactor of the item. Which Ebuyer would be happy to help and replace it for you.

Yeah right.

No experience of overclockers return policy but my experience of the ebuyer one has been terrible! Cheap for a reason.

I'll still buy from them if they have a cracking deal, but these days I'd much rather check aria, scan, microdirect & komplett first.

Voted hot.....whatever way you look at it,this is very cheap for a dual core processor!!

For anyone wanting this cpu ,you could get this heatsink and fan click £16.44,gets very good reviews and will be better than a stock heatsink supplied with the retail box version.Good for those who do wish to overclock.

Thanks to OP, good find. Ordered, and now only 7 left in stock after my order - there were 10 in stock 10 mins earlier when I first looked.

Ocuk have introduced cheap postage recently afaik, you used to have to pay £8 for anything, even a £3 part!.
Looking forward to these price cuts across the board for amd/intel,think i saw date as 10th for this happening.

Thanks for the helpful comments in this thread guys. When I first posted, I didn't even spot that it was B-grade, or I would have included it in the OP. Sorry about that
